hey guess what? The mk 1 gonna make me bankrupt! just had to hve the garage come to collect it as it was due for its mot today but i couldnt select the gears! i thought thats odd went to check it and where the clutch cable connects to the actual body of the car is starting to rip away! great! anyway its gonna be 350 at the most to get that done plus whatever the mot gonna cost! yay you gotta love mk 1 they just keep taking you money! aww my little rant over! everyone have a nice weekend! ! :cry:

there's vw approved repair 'kit' for that problem don't know what the part no. is  or whether it is still available but it was a regular fault with mk1 golfs back in the '80s perhaps someone on this forum may  have more information

its just a metal plate you slip the clutch cable thru, GSF sell the part I think.  No welding required either, it just sticks to the bulkhead, robs yr uncle :)

i had the same prob on my rocco, made a plate myself, and bolted it over the whole i left in the bulk head! took a few minutes and 40p worth of metal plate! didn't know there was a repair plate, wats it called? where can i get it?

Had the same happen to me, comman problem on mk1s. my local mechanic welded me a plate in to solve the problem 40 squid total. As mentioned above repair plates are availible u can usually find them on evil bay, just do a search for golf gti parts..
