Title: BMC Carbon airboxes...any good??
Post by: Hypermonkey on 28 July 2006, 17:11
I'm thinking of getting a CDA airbox, just wondering if any of you have one...had one...or know anything about them.

I've spoken to BMC and there is some confusion over the fitting to the 2.0l GTI 16v...as in adaptors and square to round pipes. My 57i has round pipes to the connector where the old airbox fitted in...so wtf are they on about??

help is greatly appreciated.

Simon.

this might help?

I think they get confused with the air temperature sensor. Incidentally I was thinking of selling the whole kit. Not so sure now, don't need the money anymore!

How did you find the kit...for performance and sound..if there is any.

I'm running a 57i atm and the sound is great, but just fancy the BRM as am tidying the engine bay and it looks better imo.

If you are after selling and want a 57i then drop me a pm with the details, price etc as am gonna order one Monday if you don't want to sell.

It's livelier when it's "on cam". Don't know how it compares to the K&N, probably not much different at the moment as I don't have the cold air feed installed. Was going to remove a headlight and plumb it in there but I'm not that brave ;)

Not sure if I'm selling the kit. Been offered a BRM 200 cheap, in which case I'll swap the filter over. Some of the fittings mind end up being of use to you though...

In the kit do you get the Samco hoses as well?? or are they seperate?

I'll see what comes in the kit and might give you a shout if anythings needed.

Cheers again,

Simon.

don't think so, I bought mine second hand. Pretty sure the previous guy had to get it all made up!

i have one on mine (tho not a golf) its a great piece of kit with plenty of techinacl and engineering testing to back up the claims, as for sound? i have TB's on my 206 so can't comment

but i installed the kit as when i bought the car it came with a K&N  but suffered from heat soak, as soon as this kit was on power was at a higher level and a lot more consistant and didn't drop off when the engine got hot
