Title: bonnet hinges??
Post by: brother10 on 28 July 2006, 13:15
afternoon all,
just wondering how easy (difficult!) it's gonna be to change the bonnet hinges on my GTi???
will it involve taking any panels off etc??

thank you

hi
er why would you change the hinges.  No body work to remove, bit of an ar*e to get the clips off the pivots (follow the hinge around with your hand, you'll feel the clip (like the one that holds the rear seats in) remove the clip, support the bonnet with a mate, undo the 2x bolt on each hinge, remove bonnet, remove hinges, (que famous Haynes quote) re-fit in reverse order.

Hope this helps

^^^^^^^^^spot on.
Remove the bonnet via the two 10mm bolts each side, before removing the hinge arms. If you're removing the bonnet on your own you can get away with stuffing a bundle of rag into the corners where the bonnet can sit.
