Hey guys, need your advice!
GOD DAMNIT!! My car is lovely and a right beast...however it's decided to dislike me this month... He (Gary) is burnin copious amounts of oil....the flywheel is worn and thats wearing the clutch away rapidly...and the baffles in my exhaust have collapsed making it sound like my car is nearly blowing up... not happy...
So after much thought..
1). New 1.8 carb engine with 4 - 1 exhaust manifold, weber carb, lightened and balanced flywheel and bottom end, ported and polished head = £200 is the way to go.
However... the engine itself was made by my friends uncle whom works for our very own TVR... fitted into his mk1 golf 1.1cc shell...and it doesn't run... fabulous... so lots of time consuming arrangements to be made... also I'm running out of time as my clutch is wearing away and a speedy rate. PLUS there is the fitting costs if I don't do it myself... another £200
2). New performance exhaust = from £100 to £150 no point in buying a standard one don't ya think?
3). I need a new stereo... only want to spend £150 to £200 tops... Don't know what to get...
*sigh* I have a couple of options with the engine situation.
- Swap the engine for the tuned 1.8 and hope for the best.
- Fix current engine
- Swap current engine for the donor cars engine (same engine)

As nice as that engine sounds......it doesnt run! why not source one through here or E38 that does?
Exhaust, just a back box yeah? Magnex an supersprint do some sexy sh!t
and id use the stereo money for something else engine based
-
Your right, the engine being from a mate though, is really cheap! and he says that if I can't get it running then i don't buy it..
Plus I'm still waiting for my account to be activated on E38!!

£200 is IMO a bit of a bargain. Does he know why it doesn't run?
As for stereos, I bought an Alpine 9847R, MP3, 3 pre-outs, bit of a bargain, think it falls in slightly under your budget!
-
No he doesn't know :( We think it's becuase it's a mk2 engine running off a mk1 loom.. 1.8 runnin off a 1.1...
Stereo doesn't bother me much at te minute, main thing is gettin my golf to the vw festival where it's on show!!
I have a very good friend how said buy the flywheel and clutch and we will fit it! Thanx to him, anywhere to get cheap bits????

Think you should go for the engine hun.
If it doesn't run then no worries coz you won't have to pay for it  Could maybe use the stereo money to get it working should it not.
Powerflow exhaust would be a good buy
Hope you get it sorted.

Cheers for the info guys, I've decided to change the flywheel and clutch myself, or buy a gti gearboz xlutch and flywheel and swop it all?????
-
Should get the flywheel with that 1.8 engine. So yea get a new clutch and a gti gearbox, put it all together and swap!
Easy!

Get a engine and box out of a another golf. Easy swap.
Performance exhaust??? A Backbox?? Think not, it's not performance in anyway shape or form, it will just make the car noisey. Save your money until you can afford a full system.

I would get the engine done propperly first and make sure it's reliable.
secondly get a cheap standard box...scrappies or fleabay to keep it running. It's all well and good to have a nice looking backbox and a phat sound system......but if the car doesn't go, looking at the 'zorst and listening to your tunes while parked on your drive aint really that good
