Title: Replacement fuel lines

Hi all,

Does anyone know if the fuel lines running the length of the car should be metal or plastic? I have a 91, 8v, PB, digi, GTI and the current fuel lines are plastic. One of them has split at the front of the car where they go in to the chassis and I am having real problems trying to source new ones.

VW say that it is a factory order and could take up to 20 days!

Surely there must be another source for plastic fuel lines, euro car parts, GSF and a few fuel injection specialists all say main dealer only, which seems odd to me. :huh:

Has anyone else had these issues before?

Tried searching every where for the pipe but can't get it. On order from VW now £15 each and 20 days without my MK2.  :sad: Nevermind.

Hi

Any chance of the part numbers for the fuel lines, i need to replace mine.

Am I right in understanding that your new ones were plastic?

Are they the same for 16v?

Easy DIY job or best left to a mechanic - any tips would be much appreciated.

I will see if I can find the receipt for this, but it has been a long time since I changed them. Might be quicker to give the dealer a call, I have reciepts everywhere  :smiley:

The fuel lines were plastic and different colours, from memory blue and black for my 8v.

I think the 16v fuel lines are different because of the location of the fuel pump. It was quite awkward to change the lines with the car on axe stands, it is a lot easier if you have access to a ramp.

When my main line went i went to my local pirtec and bought about 3 or 4 meters of high pressure rubber hose and some banjo connections to fit. Just ran a whole new line straight from the pump to the metering head. Dead easy and works fine.
