Title: Passenger Wing Mirror Casing
Post by: vort3x on 23 July 2006, 15:39
Hiya guys,

i was driving home from work on Friday and noticed my passenger wing mirror casing was coming off from the actual wing mirror. There is a crack in the back of it that has reached the edge of the casing. A couple of questions -

1. Most importantly, if it does fall off at some point will the rest of the wing mirror fall off as well?
2. Where can I get a replacement casing from, preferably in a particular colour, and for how much. Think mine is like a greeny blue (possibly dragon green which I saw in Halfrauds).
3. Is it simple enough to remove my current casing and putting the other one on.

I look forward to your replies.

Thanks

Hi, its a mk4 right? if it is the only greens are cosmic which is light green and bright green pearl which is dark green and is close to dragon green but doesnt have a blue pearl effect. The casing should be removeable if its colour coded. Might be worth checking gsf or euro car parts to see how much it is but you might find the mirror is only ever sold as a complete unit. I havent removed a mk4 one yet but should be pretty easy but your best bet is a haynes manual.

i replaced both of mine the other week all you need to do is unscrew two screws underneath and then you just have to pull it up (may take a bit of huffing and puffing)

but i managed to get some colour coded replacements off a guy on uk mk4 's
for 30 quid
its just a case of looking around scrapyards or if you realy have to buy some off vw and get them painted
