Title: abs pump

i'm after a bit of advice. i have mk4 1.8t. i have been having a crunching/ grinding noise when pulling away. it dosen't happen everytime and mostly when pulling away gently. the noise is coming from behind the bulkhead and i can feel it in the clutch peddle. a mechanic friend of mine put it down to the clutch and flywheel as have 97k on the clock. on changing them they were found to be about knackered and he did the job for 390quid all in!! but the noise hasen't gone away. when we ran it gently on the ramp he said the noise was coming from the abs pump...... when he plugged in there were no faults showing and the abs was working as per normal. so we did a good bit of head scratching and decided to leave it for the weekend and have and ask around. my mate said he recently changed a pump on a bora, and the parts came to around 800quid
so now i've got a lovely new clutch but still have a worrying noise now and then. if anyone has any experience or advice it would be greatly appreciated.
