Anyone no where the engine speed sensor is located in a mk3 2.0 16v? is it on or near the gearbox/flywheel? i have a fualt code which tells me my idle rpm is to high do i change the speed sensor or can i adjust it another way?
-
Isnt there an idle screw on the throttle? I would try adjusting this first.
-
ill take a look

No, ABF engine ECU sets the idle speed.
-
anyone no what i should do then? my car also just dies on me sometimes when stationary,be sitting there at the light and it will cut out and battery light will come on...any ideas? it always starts first time straight away.

ECU and Fuel Pump relays.
-
this only started after having crank speed sensor replaced so wondered if this was related....ecu relay No 30, fuel pump relay 167..?
-
Other way round, fuel relay 30, ECU relay 167.

Nice one
-
Out of interest who changed the speed sensor?
-
Machanic that i use regularly,it was the crank speed sensor that was changed as water had leaked onto it and corroded it....are crank speed sensor/engine speed sensor same thing?
-
Yes.
Was the sensor actually causing a problem before it was replaced?
-
it was fine before being replaced..well up until coolent/water corroded it, crack in the coolent housing had been there for a while and when it split it soaked the sensor.Hope replacing sensor has nothing to do with it cutting out!!!
