Hmm. I need a new steering Wheel for the VR6 (leather's ripped at the top...).. I'd quite like to stick with the stock wheel really, but it seems tricky to get hold of one in decent condition.
Seen a Few for Mk4s and Mk2s (as well as loads of non-car-specific ones of course), but I was wondering if the airbag connectors are the same on all the golfs (well, all the golfs that have an airbag of course ).. I'd rather stick with having one, since you never know what might happen, and my face is too beautiful to get re-arranged by a steering wheel! (err... Honest it is..)... But if need be I'll just get a nice replacement from somewhere and sod the airbag.
Any recommendations? It's a '95 VR6 if that makes any difference.

Nope sorry, but a MK3.5 Cabrio steering wheel looks like a MK4 wheel and will fit :)

Hmm.. Well, I'm going to a track day at Castle Coombe next weekend - there should be plenty of VWs parked there, I'll take my toolkit and a brick  (I am, of course, joking).
I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and get a non-mk3 one :undecided: That rip's really starting to annoy me.

a mk3.5.. so a steering wheel from a 98 R reg golf cabrio would fit my 96 P ..??
How easy is it to fit..?
The mk4 style looks so better on a mk3 dash

aye it will, since the MK3-3.5 cabrio uses the same stering column as a MK3, as it is essentially a MK3 underneath.

dont mean to hijack the thread but how do i go about removing the steering wheel, i have a 96 gti 8v with airbag and i have never removed an air bag wheel before and i know its not as simple as my old car which was remove the centre wheel badge and a 22mm socket onto the nut and voilla. any pointers fgreatfully recieved. cheers in advance

the airbag is held on with 2 allen screws round the back, undo these then carefully disconnect the wiring to it. Then its just a 24mm nut as per the older VWs.
The airbag light will now come on, so you need to buy a resistor which plugs into the loom and switches the light off. I don't know the exact details of what you need to get though!

so i have to remove the steering colum plastics to get at the allen key bolts on the rear of the wheel?
-
no they're sticking out the back of the wheel, I just used an allen key :)
