hello everyone!
im new to this forum and just thought id introduce myself. I'm guessing im probably one of the youngest people here, being the tender age of 16. Ive just bought a mk2 1.6 driver for my first car (dont ask about insurance!), should be driving in may and im ready to get into the golf world full on. No Novas or Corsas for me, ive got taste! ;D
one quick question: my rear window is constantly covered on the inside with condensation if the car is parked outside, no matter what the weather is. any ideas why this is happening?
cheers

alrite mate. im 17 and am drivin my own mk2 1.6 driver. i got insurance the cheap way by putting it TPFT under my mums name with any additional driver under 25. its the only way to do it unless i wanted to pay ?2500 under my own name.

I can empathise too, im gonna b 21 at the end of april and the quotes i had for my mk2 1.6 driver were silly as well. Last year i paid just over a grand for my own policy TPFT, this year it is pretty much the same, so im gonna do what u mentioned and whack the mother down as the main driver (still ?600+ tho.. :o)
Im a student ffs!!!! >:(
But the satisfaction of driving the phattest mk2 in my town makes up 4 it :D
cheers

Nice one Jack and welcome.
I suspect your rear screen is misting up all the time is because you have water getting into the car. Try looking under the boot carpet around your spare wheel well etc. Is it damp/wet? If so, it may be coming in around the rear light cluster/s

They suffer badly from condensation, especially a leak at the front of the car by the fan in the passenger door well (or somewhere round there so I'm told).

I would have thought that if the leak was towards the front of the car then the front windscreen would be the one getting more condensation. I've had one leak at the front before, turned out to be the heater matrix leaking >:(

yeah, thats what I thought. I've got an old mule (DregDriver) thats about to be scrapped. Leaks like a sieve at the front, but the condensation is at the rear.

I had exactly the same problem on my mk2 8v, it turned out to be the front doors letting in the water throught the door cards.
The old plastic membranes had shrivelled up and no longer stopping water in through the door and soaking the carpet, front and back. I repaired it with a cutdown plastic bag and loads of duck tape. Car is now dry as a bone..
Hope this helps.
If not theres a whole load of info on sorting out your mk2 leaks right here... http://www.matey-matey.com/leak_prevention.shtml

cheers everyone for ur help. sounds like it might be leaking through a front door cause the carpet under the front seat is slightly damp

hi, when my mk2 got pranged by some old spas***c it was stood up for a couple of months and got so wet everything started to grow mould. ?Anyway it got fixed and as soon as i started using it again it dried out so i would not worry too much but i would try and scource any leaks and fix them properly(gaffer tape does not constitute a quality repair ;)

just noticed where you said the leak appeared to be. my car has the trim missing at the bottom of the drivers door panel and water runs in there.

Snap, I'm 16 and just got a Golf 1.6 Driver. It also kept getting consdensation on the windows. I found that the seal was leaking round the rear drivers side door was leaking.
I've found some much better looking seats in an Old Mk1 Golf, wondered if they would replace my old ones without a problem?

Yes they will fit. Mk1, Mk2, and early Mk3 front seats are all interchangable. You can even use ones from Polos and early (upto 1995) Passats as well. The back seats sadly are not so easy to swap between models. :-[
