The missus got home from work tonight and forgot to pull the handbrake up!!, our drive is slightly sloping.... yes you guessed it, the car rolled and took out my gates and post, and put some really deep scratches in the rear bumper and boot lid, not to mention i have to fix the gates.

arghhhh, she was gutted fair play, but still..........
WHY?????? why do women do it??
the problem i have now is whether or not to get the insurance involved... as i havent really told them about alloys!!
the respray alone will cost a fair bit i think.....so do i risk it with the insurance and lose my no claims and pay the excess, or get it done at my expense??!! maybe a r32 rear bumper thrown in!
aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
-
even i gotta admit that is bad sh!t lol
why dont u get prices before claimin?
Dinx
-
its not all women...
i've never done that... my dad leavin my cr in gear.. that annoys me...
i'd get prices first n see if it is worth claiming... might be able to pick up bits pretty cheap round ere.. or scrappy? front end damage golf?
-
check what your excess is first for that kind of claim.. probably cheaper to get it sorted out of your own pocket.
-
Its not only women drivers but I will admit we do (most men) notice women who do alot more in terms of screw ups, but then hey, women will point out every mans screw up so its fair!
My dad left his auto in reverse and yep you know what happen he didnt put the hand break on and it shot back into my car and put a hench dent in my passenger door... I retalliated and kicked his Merc so hard the bumper cracked
We called it quits
-
Now this is probably just a car dealer thing, but has anyone else ever parked a car facing a wall, bout a foot away an left in in gear? this is one of my favorite things to do to trainees, cus u know they aint gunna check if its in gear!
-
 Pretty funny, I put mine in gear when on a slope incase the handbreak fails, and when starting a car I always depress the clutch
-
aye...i dont understand people who leave their cars in gear like..fair does on a steep hill o summit..
but if ur drivin sumone else car, you should leave it like you got it, therefore if it wasn in gear wen u got in..dont leave the fcuker in gear wen u get out!
*please note this paul!!
Dinx

To be honest i dont undertand people who dont check if the car is in neutral before startin. I tend to always leave the car in gear when i park up just seems natural to me to check it's not in gear before you turn the key !
-
I got a nice big dent in nearside front door! Reversing into my garage, I forgot that my mates compressor was the other way round and sticking out a bit! :embarassed:
Got a quote yesterday to repair that and the rear and the bonnet - £600
Not bad considering it will be just over half the car!
-
LEN , it will be cheaper to buy another golf

well obv u check because u leave ur car in gear, as i dont leave it in gear, i dont check!
i mean when you buy a brand new car, its not in gear is it..
you gettin it done for bugjam?
Dinx
-
Cheers Billy! Why got one for sale by any chance?
Should have been £750 but because he knows me etc.
Am I getting it done for Bugjam? What prepping today paint 2moro? Ummmm No!

thanks for the replies everyone, i was really really mad last night and needed to vent...
then Mr San Miguel helped me forget about things LOL
i havent got any quotes yet (it only happened last night!!), but its a complete spray of the rear bumper, and i might say that the "key" mark down the passenger side was done at the same time...
*ive been meaning to get that done for ages!!*
theres a dent in the boot lid, not very big, but its there.....its not too bad really, it couldve been a lot worse, especially if the pillar holding my gate up fell on the car aswell (i built it and its solid)
so all in all :undecided:
what freaked the missus out was i DIDNT even shout..... i was well pissed tho'.
to answer some questions... i always check neutral when i get into a car/van, its just a habit....
also, when on a hill....always in gear...
and Randomjord...youre soooo cruel LOL  wicked sense of humour mate LOL
So, my mates Dad works in a body shop ( ive just found out!!) so im taking it to him to look at on Saturday,
if things go well, i might get some other things "tidied "up when im at it
i still think most women drivers are well ditsy tho', sorry girls its true.....
ive got some pics somewhere....to follow

see, its not all that bad, its just the scratches look worse than they do in the pics....
how do you like my pillar?? it didnt even break!! WOW, now that couldve done some damage.
i cant even move it from there, ive got to break it up now.LOL
-
Unlucky mate, I don't even let my missus sit in the drivers seat , if you need a top paint job done and quite cheap, give me a call. I'll pm you
-
No its not impressive that the pillar fell in one piece! Shows it wasnt started right at the bottom!
And why didnt it fall outwards?
Probably the bolt did most of the damage by being in the ground it had to be ripped off the gates to allow them to give.

LOL, that that pillar was the first bit of brick work i ever attempted, it took me 2 days to build, and yes i agree, the mix was wrong when i started it! LOL LOL but its a good job it didnt hit the bloody car, i pushed the pillar over so thats why its in the garden and not fallen out.
Cheers Gaz, Pm returned
The problem i got is the missus drives the car everyday (for work etc) so i cant really stop her (or she wont work!!) and ive got no where to keep another car, what with project "Rat" in the garage! hahaha, and my works van hogging the rest of the drive :undecided:
-
Well in that case I would not refit the bolt and find some sort of "soft" breaking tie between the gates!
That way if she does it again they will give and not cause so much damage!
Yea helps if ya get the mortar mix right! Glad you learned from it!
-
LOL, yeah i learned LOL,
the problem is that if it was to ever happen again (id make her get the bus) and the car did go through the gates, the fence thats the other side of our lane, hides a 15-20 ft drop!!

doesnt bear thinking about really
-
bummer man, least no - one got hurt
-
Aha! No that dont bear thinking about!
Best keep the bolt on the gates then!
-
Dont even get me started on women drivers
-
haha, i guess you right, no-one got hurt....except me car !
