Title: De cat pipe
Post by: Rideandy on 17 July 2006, 22:24
Hello.
Does any of you have  a DE cat pipe fitted? I am having a bit of trouble with my cat and it looks very expensive to have replaced so thought this might be a good option, plus it throws up the bhp a tad too.

I know it wont get through an mot with out cat fitted  but heard a rumour that it wont cost much to fit, so thought it might be worth it

I have seen a couple on ebay , what do you think?
Cheers
Andy

This can be a grey area.

Your insurance company will gladly take extra premium when you tell them the car has a de-cat...but in the event of an accident, your car is unroadworthy...as it would fail the mot due to emissions....and therefore all cover is cancelled. A guy on the scooby forum had a write off and they refused to pay as the car had a de-cat...although fully declared.

Things might have changed now...but I doubt it.

Do a search for a company called 'The Parts Gateway'. They search a list of breakers that specialise in whatever make you have. You have to join up...it's free...and when a quote comes in they mail it to your e-mail addy.

I've found them really good, and many parts come with a garentee from 28 days to 6 months depending on the company the parts are from.

Sports cats have less fibres in the pipe to allow a better flow, but just enough to pass the MOT. They do tend to be a little more than a regular cat from my experience.

Don't know offhand...all depends on how easy your old one comes off...if they need to get new bolts, gaskets etc.

Where abouts are you as someone might be able to reccomend a specialist near to you thet could give you a quote.

Yep you will have to tell the insurance, if you do have a smash and they inspect it and see you have one they could invalidate your insurance.

If you could travell a little further to Aldermaston then try -------->http://www.stormdevelopments.co.uk/Contact.html

They are great, and a quick train to Reading gets you a day out at the shopping centre and the cinema...tons of places to eat and shop at the Oracle.
Return trains are every hour so check first....

Just tell them Simon put you in touch

Ask for Andy or Milles.
