What year is it, as there are 2 types. Either way they're about £5 from http://www.vwspares.co.uk
(If its a pre 90 spec with the hazard on the dash, look under MK1 Golf, and if its a post 90 spec with the hazard on the column look under Corrado)
Actually doing it isn't too bad, but a bit fiddly. If you have the spline adaptor on the column (all MK2s from around 86) then you need to remove it, which can be done with a set of decent pullers. If you can't get it off, you need to remove the column:
1. Take out all the ignition shroud trim & the dash undertrays
2. Remove wheel & stalks
3. Undo large bult holding the ign shroud to the column
4. Undo & remove the nut & bolt holding the column to the universal joint at the bottom
5. The column should come out complete with the ignition switch housing
6. Now you can get to the screw holding the switch on and remove it
Don't worry, it isn't half as bad as it sounds
