So what cars have you lot 'played with' and beat when faced by the might of the MK3?
I had no problem getting rid of a MK3 1.6Driver - oh how i laughed as he tried to keep up!
-
Mine's an 8 valve but i think most would be supprised if they drove her. Even AMD said it was much quicker than they expected on the rolling road! Guess i got a good one. I have modded it up tho and now it's 135bhp with a brand new clutch.
Also many of you may not know the 2.0 8 valve is one of the quickest off the line, quicker off the line than the 16valve as the 8 valve is a lower reving engine has its peak torque is low on the revs.
Anyway back to topic.
Many Nova's in various shapes and sizes have been trounced.
Whipped a lowered Micra - this thing was horriffic looking - with micra sport written all over it. He was havin ago at the lights.
Many saxo's - had a great race with a lowered VTS.
Whipped a few Civics (not type R's obviously).
Crushed a Corola GT from stop at the lights.
Pissed all over a Celica GT.
Best race was with a PT cruiser, lasted best part of 20 miles on dual carrige ways and the M23 until i backed off the power and let him past. He just couldn't pass me but kept up, twas close. we hit 130, which my car should not be able to do if you read the manual. Thing was a pimp mobile lowered massive crome rims tinted windows! He he he...
Had a good few go's with bm's and mercs too with supprising results!
;D ;D ;D
-
Whupped an MX5 in my 8 valve, easy meat!
Beat all the other crap too, you know astras, vectras etc.
Not bad seeing as the 8 valves a crap car right!!!! ;)
-
we hit 130, which my car should not be able to do if you read the manual. ;D ;D ;D
Had 130 out of mine too!!
Right load of rubbish these 8 valves! ;D
-
I whooped a kid on roller blades last week!! My car rocks!!!
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
I whip just about everything except decent sports cars.
:D :D :D
-

I forgot to add to that list varios rovers especially those damm ugly MG ZR's or whatever they are called. Whatever they are its Mutton dressed as lamb same goes for the 200SVi
-
Mk3 8v! ;)
-
I don't race. ;)
*Yeh, right*
-
all sorts!!! i drive hard and even though ive only got a 125 bhp mk4 and a 112 bhp mk2 i can go like the clappers!!!! (when mrs and kids and pushchair not in boot!!!) i could not give a 'list' as to cars ive beaten as unless its a fair start off rom lights on a eg:1/4 mile drag stip etc it aint fair as one could be rollin one standin etc then it goes on so all ill say is im fairly quick and will play wiith out even though im underpowered!!!!(have done 1/4 mile strightlining in cars and on bikes!!! oh what fun thats a real race!!) ;D ;D ;D
-
i tried to play with a jag but just left me but it just left me for dead lol

Punto (Many of them too... hey guess what our boy racers drive....)
Focus (Probably either 1.4,1.6,1.8 or 2.0... not ST170/RS)
few other "old" cars... Cavaliers, Mondeo's etc...
oh and a Golf VR6 ... heh heh ... joke
-
Are you sure they were all racing you?
or were they driving normally while you had your foot to the floor in every gear?
:-*
-
What I've found when racing VR6 drivers is you can beat em cause they dont wanna burn a gallon beating our asses from the lights!
hee hee ;D
-
I'll tell you how u can beat a vr6 -
i'll turn up at the lights backwards
put it in reverse, then let fly
while you put your foot to the floor in every gear
you might just overtake me when you redline in 3rd
:D :-*
-
were they driving normally while you had your foot to the floor in every gear?
uhm no they were racing.
oh and uhm, everyone I know whos seen my car wants to buy it off me.... must be a "GTI" thing, isnt that right Glen! heh heh
-
I don't think the vr6 is especially fast anymore, what does that make the 8v?
a mere 115bhp, not a lot is it?
-
a "modern" performance car has 200Bhp + (Type R can be let into this chategory with its 197bhp)
A GTI 8v is for us 18/19yr olds who cant get insurance on a VR6 and if we COULD get insurance on a VR6 then we'd buy a Clio 172 Cup and blitz the VR6 ... lol
-
Hey VR6 u must have heard this one, its not the size its how you use it! ha ha ;D
-
You'd buy a clio? you sad muppet
no quicker than a vr and built like poo poo
-
I'm sorry BlackGTI you were OK then u mentioned the R word, now now look no need for swearing in here 'Renault' is not a car brand you wanna buy, honestly, the'yre crap.
-
Took the wife and had a test drive of the Clio 172.
The car we tried had done 10,200miles, so was nicely run in and ready to go.
First Impressions:
Comfy Seats (even the wife agreed)
Very quiet (I was expecting rattles/road noise)
Very nippy
Overall, I was most impressed. The wife was too, and she's harder to please with a car
I was able to drive the car on a variety of roads, so got to see it in traffic and on a dual carriage way.
Engine
Pick up was responsive, especially after 5,000 revs when the VVT kicks in. Got a nice subtle growl to it.
The clutch bite point was very high, which made it a little hard work to start with, but thats like any new car you drive I guess.
Exterior
On the exterior, the body has clean lines, almost bland. Which for a pocket rocket is just what is needed. People only see what they want to see, and to most people it looks like a little town runabout. The exhaust is hidden nicely below the bumper, which keeps the subtle lines across the rear of the car as well.
Interior
Seats were comfortable, held you in place nicely. Got the wife to sit in the back as well, just to see if there was enough room for the rare occasion when we have rear passengers etc.
The Leather/Alcantara combination gives the car a nice sporty yet comfortable look.
I was expecting a harsher ride and more rattles/creaks than there was, I guess I had the wrong impressions about a hot hatch.
So.... where now?
I've called the bank, asking for a new loan to cover the difference between my car and the new car.
Awaiting a decision, then once it's been agreed, it's off to find the right car to buy.
Currently the options I have are:-
My car + 3,900 for the Clio above, 02plate 10,200miles (Total Price 11,500)
My Car + 4,250 for a brand new 53 plate Clio Sport from Trade Sales in Slough (Total Price 11,500)
Fingers crossed the bank likes me and decides it'd be a good move giving me the loan.
took that quote from another site.
and the Clio Cup = 0-60mph = 6.6secs
VR6 = 7.3secs
-
Thats very optimistic considering the clio v6 does it in around 6 secs!
don't you think? but renault are a bit optimistic about their cars.
or do you believe anything?
like your car does 0-60 in under 9 secs
umm cough *bullsh!t*
-
mmm, look for the key phrases in the appraisal, 'the wife was impressed', 'even the wife liked it'
mmm what sort of car loving bloke wrote this?
I'm sure you wouldnt watch top gear and hear Clarkson say 'my wife liked it so I'm buying it'
Get real, use your brain Renault = massive depretiation
its an easy sum to do
-
Lets take that comment and disect it
VR6 = 173Bhp
Clio = 172Bhp
Clio = 1000kg
VR6 = 1350kg
... I reckon the Clio is faster... its a newer engine too.
*EDIT* those weights are guesses Im sure the Clio is less than a 1000kg
-
Lets take that comment and disect it further,
VR6 = VW
Clio = Renault
No further questions your honour.
-
VR6 = VW
Clio = Renault
ok so Renault are French and we all hate the French!
.. but if I had a 172 I could meet Golfvr6 and beat him in a race LOL!!!
-
Newer engines will be slower than an older run-in engine, provides it is not excessively worn.
Most engines don't loosen up for at least 70k.
I'll check the weights, i doubt the renault is under 1000kg.
-

even if you did win you would fall apart as you went past! :o
-
Hey VR6 thats just what I said, older engines are quicker run in after 70k!
But as far as the the 172crap, sorry cup concerned it WILL probably break down on the race lap
-
even if you did win you would fall apart as you went past
LMAO!!!
yeah well... ill get a warranty..
nah I soooo love the ST170 with Xenon's... wicked car!
id have a Focus b4 I had a Clio!
-
BKACK GTI STEP AWAY FROM THE WEBSITE WITH YOUR HANDS UP, THATS IT JUST WHERE I CAN SEE EM
-
BKACK?
... ???
Focus's are good cars and great at handling.
would u turn down a ST170 or a RS?
-
Yes Black your talking Kack so Bkack,
As for turning a car down its not at all relevant as we dont get 'offered em' so what u on about?
If you could afford to buy one would you spend ?20 odd thousand on one or would you get a second hand porsche or maybe a R32, come on get real!
-
Focus RS Vs Golf R32...
thats a tough choice... both are nice cars.
-
Not really no
R32 of course.
Mr Blackgti, you likes going on about cars you can't afford. At least quote some decent cars.
The renault clio and ford focus, is that the best you can do? is that all you aspire to? he he he ::)
-
erm, HAPPY NEW YEAR :D
-
Focus RS Vs Golf R32...
thats a tough choice... both are nice cars.
Not really. I'd take the R32 every time. I can't say torque-steering into a hedge is my idea of fun.
I'd still take an Integrale over the pair of them (preferably an Evo 2). Perfect for showing impreza owners a thing or two down the local B-roads :D
-
This has GOT to be the worst, most bullsh!t thread EVER.
-
Yep i guess so ::)
-
I beat a corsa 1.2 from the lights last night. It was modded to the max, neon washer jets, viper stripes etc... I just about him in my mk2 VR but then someone in an 8v GTI somked us both :D Bollocks!!!!
-
i believe you! ;) ;D :P
(about the shopping trolley...sorry corsa i mean :P)
-
Had a ax gt and boy it could smoke a few golfs from the lights. Drivers didnt have a look in! gti's cought me on the top end!
Anyways pick me mk3 1.8 up on wed so fun fun fun, now i get to play with ax'x :D
-
then someone in an 8v GTI smoked us both
YEAH WE DO! ;D ;D ;D :D ;D
-
then someone in an 8v GTI smoked us both
YEAH WE DO! ;D ;D ;D :D ;D
LOL! ;D
-
I took on a Mk2 G60 with my VR6 a few months ago.
It was pretty close. I was chuffed.
-
LOL!
keep rollin' rollin' rollin' rollin'
-
then someone in an 8v GTI smoked us both
YEAH WE DO! ;D ;D ;D :D ;D
Damn straight. Wind it up and the 8v will fly.
-
Fly like what? a snail :o
-
No, like the internal parts of another early VR6 engine munching itself at the 100k miles mark.
-
Fly like what? a snail
no, a 4Motion!
No, like the internal parts of another early VR6 engine munching itself at the 100k miles mark.
yep, Ive been reading the VR6's are notoriously unreliable compared with other mk3's!
-

are they really? i'd never guessed
where did you get that gem from?
-
the vr6 is notoriously fast compared with the 8v :-*
-
No, like the internal parts of another early VR6 engine munching itself at the 100k miles mark.
You're gonna tell me you know how to strip down a vr6 engine now? the ashtray is just as hard to remove as on the 8v :D
-
I don't need to know how to strip down a VR6 engine, I'm pretty confident the engine could do a much better job itself.
-
the vr6 is notoriously fast compared with the 8v
until u hit 55Mph and that dodgy V6 thing wobbles out of the engine
-
If the v6 unit is so unreliable then why is it in the mk4, and now going in the Audi A3 and TT.
:D
-
the one in the mk4 aint that old iron rust bucket monkey wrench created heap. its a proper MODERN V6.
heh heh
-
*snigger*
12v in a V6
*snigger snigger*
-
LOL
I assume this means I can't say I'm from Sthingyhorpe now then aswell?
-
why do all the 8v boyos get wound up so easily??..........
.........its not meant to be a loaded question.
You all (8v's :'() seem to throw a tantrum on flipant comments.
'Calm down dear'
O
-
Ok then, trade your 16v in for an 8v and see how many "It's not a proper GTI" comments it takes for you to flip out :)
-

Exactly. ... but to be honest, up here i the hills theres only Nova boys, Corsa boys, Punto boys and crappy plastic black bumper Escort boys... so Im the pinacle of boy racerness and speed LOL
... Can we have a Black_GTI Vs GolfVR6 forum? LMAO
-
the one in the mk4 aint that old iron rust bucket monkey wrench created heap. its a proper MODERN V6.
heh heh
So what is a modern V6?
-
R32.
Clio Sport.
-
The R32 is same engine block design as the old vr6 :D
next question? :D
-
still more modern.. im sure for a brand new car, they aint using 1991 technology
-
i overtook a new mk5 2.0 Fsi and an R32, closely followed by an anniversay golf turbo.................
Yeah i was driving past the new VW garage in Sittingbourne...
-
anniversary turbo? thought they were all sold out... didnt realise garages had em... unless people realised they couldnt afford them afterall and traded em in LOL!
-
still more modern.. im sure for a brand new car, they aint using 1991 technology
Some engine technology on 4 cylinder engines actually dates back to the late seventies, not that much has really changed mainly electronics.
-
Yup VR6 is right 4 cylinder engines or any engine still use 70's technology, made from metal, use spark plugs, pistons, etc. burn petrol.
etc. etc.
Tell u what that kid knows his stuff!
-
hmm, maybe we need more wankels around here then LOL!
-
Your car is tidy Mr.Blackgti, why don't you modify it?
-
Is that a joke, insult or are u actually being serious?
If you are being serious then all I can say is, it is modified...but only on the exterior.
Smoked Indicator wing lenses
Red calipers
Original bodykit sprayed bodycolour
New front skirt
Mk4 bee sting aerial
*soon* front indicator, fogs etc to be smoked and Hella dual headlights smoked, magnex (maybe) exhaust
-
NO modify it
Engine mods
Get the car to actually perform like a GTI
::)
-
why?
-
Nooooo - don't get a twin headlamp conversion. Imo nothing looks worse on a Mk3, short of neon lights and whale tail spoilers. They are just plain wrong :/
I wouldn;t worry about engine mods either - if yours is anything like mine, it already performs like a GTi and, far more importantly - will sh!t on the poor buggers who bought a Mk4 GTi :)
-
:D

Yeah, since it got the new injectors etc its performing very well indeed...I want the Hella lights cos they are smoked and it'll match the rest of the exterior lights... but im still pondering over this one...
-
ok this is not a Veedub, but a Veedub engine, which is the next best thing!
actually, the car is not completely built yet, so I will start a new post with the story...... sharpen your arrows you oil-burner haters!
