Hi, new to forum, wonder if anyone could answer a question that my VAG dealer cant? I recently bought a 2000 reg Golf 1.4 e base model, apparently without central locking. However, when I open the door, I can hear a whirring noise coming from within the door. This occurs whether you open the driver or passenger door. It sounds like some kind of motor, and sounds similar to the noise from the central locking that I used to experience on my Mk2 Golf driver. The dealer claims that this model did not come with central locking as standard, but I cant find any info to back this up. Is it likely that something has broken or has been disabled on my car? If not, whats the whirring noise?
Any help or info greatly apprciated!

easiets way to check - when u unlock the drivers side door, does the passenger door unlock too?
if it does then you've got central locking!
I'm sure it does cos my dad had central locking on his :undecided:

no thats the whole point, i have to open each door (and the boot) using the key, unless I flip the latch for the passenger door from the inside. It seems odd to me that such a recent car wouldnt have this facility, even for the bog standard base model.

sorry i was being thick :embarassed: been a long day........
i can't remember if it became standard from 2002 onwards....my dad had two and i can't for the life of me remember if his first car (1998) model had it
hmmm - not much us am i!! lol
only other thing i can suggest is pop into your local stealer with the chassis number and they can look it up and check for you

I did, asked them to check while it was in for something else, they say it didnt have it, but if thats true, whats the whirring sound from the door?? Just doesnt make any sense to me. If all else fails, I'll take the door panel off and have a poke about, I guess it will be fairly obvious if theres a motor on the door lock mech??

mine also does this, and it's a "S" model.
i think that noise is the deadlock and electrics activating when you open the door.

the noise you will hear in the mornings when you open the door is just the fuel pump priming? are you sure it the door?
-
Dont think so, it seems to come from the door
Joey does your S model have central locking? And what year is it?

The whirring is normal.. i always assumed it was the fuel pump priming but never bothered to check. I'm fairly certain the 'E' range didnt have c/l as standard in 2000 .. it was part of a convenience/comfort pack as an optional extra.. its all controlled by the ECU so the dealer should be able to tell pretty quickly if you have it or not.
Or if you're really sceptic you could always take the door card off and have a look
