Hi - I've recently ordered an GTI that'll be with me mid/end September, but I've read a few reviews on the internet with rumours of a MK VI golf due out in first quarter 2007. Aparantly the MkV is too expensive to make...
Anyone have any more info on this, and would MK VI GTI's be available from launch?

The talk is not of 2007. All the magazines I've read have said last quarter of 2008, and they're referring to the standard car, the GTi would as normal if it does get changed follow a few months later. The mags I've seen this in are Car, Autocar, Top Gear.

I think Autocar/express were guilty of lying in order to sell magazines!!! they talked of an '07 change, but everyone else talks '08 and late '08 for a Gti....

Most helpful folks.
Thank you. I'm happier now that my eagerly anticipated GTI won't be out of date after a few weeks!!!

Autocar / Autoexpress -
Sensationalist headlines????
NEVER!!!!!!!!
-
LOL, like talk of a 276mph Bugatti Veron!!!!
They should be shut down and just leave EVO

According to Auto Express there is an anniversary GTI due out next year with around 230bhp and a few body mods, any one else heard anything, is there a waiting list yet!!
-
I think the anniversary is pretty much a given. i think the main external differences are colour coding and different wheels, so not as big a upgrade as the mk4 GTi anniv, but probs a good buy assuming pricing is sensible.
230 (at least) sounds about right, given the new Leon Cupra will be c. 245 (i think!)
-
No official news on the anniversary model as yet from volkswagen.

240 on the leon cupra
and the new s3 will have the same 2.0 fsi turbo unit found in the golf gti (i was a bit unimpressed with this though)
but the s3 will have 265 bhp it just goes to show what the golf gti engine is capable of
