Hi all iv currently clocked up 185'000 on my Mk1 GTI 1800 Y reg and am thinking about a Mk2 16v swap, which other parts will i need apart from the engine? Uprated brakes, suspension etc have all been taken into consideration.. Any help and tips would be much appreciated.. Mark

I'm finishing mine off at the moment (see link in my siggy ) its all pretty much a straightforward swap, you need the majority of whats under the bonnet on the 16v, complete engine with ancillaries, all engine electrics (ECU etc..) master cylinder & servo (mk1 has clearance issues+ 16v is better ) the gearbox is worth using too as its better geared to the engine.
You need to do a few more posts on this site, then I can pm you a really useful PDF file  (unless you want to leave me your email on here :undecided:)

Many thanks for the help geezer. Here's my email #######@aol.com this site is the bollox mate.. oh one more thing this might seem like a daft question but should i go for a new engine or second hand?

If you've got the money for a new engine why not? I used second hand myself and replaced all the gaskets after checking everything over, it does have a re-con head though  for the cost of a new/recon one you could buy loads of second hand ones, thats what I'm doing as I expect to blow a couple when I go turbo
