Title: this noise = ?
Post by: ghost8 on 11 July 2006, 21:16
hey guys, need some help please,
with the weather as its been, the windows are down, and recently I been leaving me tunes off ?  (strange enough in itself).
I noticed a while ago a sound, that only happens on gear change, not really deep, but a solid volkswagen build quality sounding of what seems like something engaging - rod into slot?
Its relative to the stick movement, not clutch pedal movement, so mebbe the connector rod / gubbins need greasing or is it something on the way out?
I dunno, I lub me car but aint a car doctor type bod
your thoughts....?

Possibly some of the gear bushes need replacing. Look in the maintenance and info section for a guide.

the linkage does make a nice mechanical noise when you shift gears but i doubt you'd hear it while driving.

Depends how loud your engine is and where you are, when driving round my work carpark with the tunes off and windows down I can hear it quite clearly.  Have a look at the gearbox while someone changes gears, you should be able to hear where the noise is coming from :)

It should be a nice clicky noise ;)

yeah as rubjonny says,  a nice solid click,  no accompanying sounds that would indicate alarm....
pulling up and leaving junctions etc. are the only times I get to hear it - sunroof only open usually, but slowing down for summer has given me more insight into me car,  you get to look longer at the hunnies aswell -
so it's normal then?
the noise , not the perving
