hi all does any body have any info on which is the best vr6 to use for a mk2 golf swap? whats the pros and cons for both?, cheers gaz
-
the 2.9 has more power. the earlier type management doesn't have an imobiliser built in. the later will require that part removing unless u have all the bits to go with it.
-
so does the 2.9 make more power just cos of the extra cc or is there more to it than that?
-
yeah thats the only real difference. 2.8 174bhp, 2.9 190bhp if i remember rightly.
-
I'm no six pot expert, but I have heard the 2.9's suffer more probs with piston rings & bore's etc.
-
does anyone no a ruff price for a drive in drive out, conversion from a garage? is there much price difference between the 2.9/ 2.8? cheers
-
Where in the country are you?
-
I should imagine you be looking about 4k ish. Nuff work involved in putting a vr in a mk2.
-
im in ripley derbyshire, just got a quote from midland vw for 3300 drive in drive out, that good?
-
well midland vw seem to know what they're on about so i'd say thats not a bad price. are they supplying the engine as well?
-
Yeah midland vw have a good reputation. Good price if that includes the engine too.
If while you're ringing round, you come accross dubshack. Avoid them at all costs. Mate of mine had a vr done there, he did have his bay smoothed too. Took em over 6 months! I know theres alot of work in smoothing a bay etc, but even so 6 months is a long time!
-
As said.. thats a good price, and you know that when you get it back from midlandvw everything will work as it's supposed to.
But why not buy one thats already had all the work done.. including brakes etc.

I was tempted by this one myself, but i'd have to supercharge it, and use it as a daily runner... not too economical

mmmmm! that is tempting???? midland vw are supplying engine, box, well everything really. said the engine will either low milage or rebuilt? i thought it was a good price. good to here they seem a good garage too,
