Merry Xmas Vry1
I have a problem with oil pressure on my Golf Mk2 GTI.
Having done 180000 odd mile Im constantly getting oil pouring out the oil cap.
I have put a new cap on as I thought it may be worn but it still does it.
I have to keep filling oil etc. Oil is all over engine and it looks really sad.
I have had the head gasket done during last summer.
Any ideas.

Is the cam cover warped/damaged?

Check the breather in the rocker cover, if it is blocked the pressure will force the oil out the seal. With the engine running, pull out the dip stick and if there is a lot of pressure/fumes then check the pipe from the cam cover. Pull the pipe off the cam cover, block the end of the rubber pipe so the engine runs, start the engine and "fumes" should come out of the stub on the cam cover. If not then remove the cover and clean out all the carbon. There is a metal gause(sp?) covering the end where the breather pipe is that makes it hard to clean, soaking in diesel or similar (have heared that dish washer tabs work :o) over night helps. When it is cleaned out (and washed) you should be able to blow through the pipe without any restriction.

i dont think its oil pressure related.........
mk1 suffered from a problem like this where oil would come out of the cap... vw solved this problem by putting a splash guard over the camshaft so when the cam is coated with oil at high rpm it wont spin off and hit the oil cap.....
when you take the oil cap off can you see the camshaft if you can your splash guard is missing!
and this will be your problem!
they may have missed it out when your head gasket was done!
this can also be caused by too much oil make sure the cars parked on level ground! :)
if you have the splash cover then the mesh inside the rocker cover may be blocked as someones already said. a vw garage told be they set fire to the mesh and burn the crap off or you could use a blow torch
if thats to be done id advise you wear a fume filtering mask as you will be burning oil........

Good advice above. Wouldn't have thought of the splash guard, but then I've never had one missing. I wondered why they intruduced that, now I know.
If it isn't that then I'd go with Steve and try the breather.........its what first came to my mind.
