My MkII 16v has jst starting making a knocking noise! the noise is more of a tapet noise that gets louder and faster as the engine revs build up! i've had the rocker cover off changed all the tapets and both cams are in perfect condition! the noise is coming right from the top underneath the rocker cover but i can't figure out what it is! its not the right noise to be bottom end, and it is missing slightly. does anyone have any ideas!
Cheers Jay

Hi Mate,
Have you had your car tuned recently? - What is the condition of the timing belt like?...
Also, does the knocking continue when warm?
-
Also,
Doe sit get worse with higher revs, if it does it could possibly be the front of the exhaust / manifold problem.
-
Sounds like it could be a 'little' end on the way out or piston slap......

no its doesn't get any better when warmer! and the higher i rev it, the louder it gets and faster it gets! thats why i thought it could be the cam or the cam followers! i'll take the head off this week, and work from there! cheers people.

Did you soak the new lifters before installing them?
-
did you fit a genuine/decent german brand oil filter the last time you did the oil?
Edit: And what oil did you use?
-
yea we did soak them made sure they were full of oil b4 putting them in, i used 10-40 oil i've even let the car run for a while after fitting the lifters to let the oil get to the top but it still makes the noise! i'm having these feelings its a valve sticking cause its slightly missing! and the noise is coming right from the top of the engine!
