Hi,
I have a '00 W plate Golf GTI 1.8T which has a hot start problem and the only way I can get it started is by bumping it.
I suspect this might be down to the oxygen sensor (car has done 87k) - does anyone know of a common problem with this model Golf? :undecided:
Thanks

This sounds a bit silly but with the 20vt they get heat soak problems and shut down to safe mode, as well as turning engine off you have to remove the key for it to reset itself, just wondereing if you problem is related have you tried removing the key and leaving it 10 mins?
Haven't heard of hot start like you have said as such I am just talking about safe mode but might be worth a try.

No answer is silly - at least it might be determined through process of elimination
Looks like it's going to be a plug in diagnostic job to me.

could be the temp sender.. cheap easy fix.
-
those blue senders are a common problem...

As topher and Dizzie said coolant senor and i think the new ones are green £25 roughly. If not get it diagnosed.

Thanks lads, much appreciated.
I'll let you know the outcome after a quick visit to GSF

Any update on this, as My Mrs' Audi A3 1.8T sometimes does this, refuses to fire up when hot. Have to leave it a few mins then it will catch.

Whilst looking through the ukmkiv forum some members have had problems with broken air ducting sucking in all the hot air after the MAF so ratios wrong.
