Title: what should i buy for my near standard driver??? *lame thread alert!*
Post by: samjac68 on 07 July 2006, 22:23
hi all

basically, ive got money lol its burning a hole in my pocket

got £88 to spend so far but will have another £15 friday  and got plenty of goodies on ebay so should raise £20ish

before anyone says theyres no point tarting up a rust bucket, ive done some rust repair already, tidied up the back end a lot, getting a new tailgate soon as theres a hole in it lol, and today secured 6 tins of brand new hammerite worth £40, for a fiver, off my aunty  for the engine bay rust etc

so heres what i have in mind

set of 14in rims, found a set of (i think) standard polo alloys, big vw logo in the middle, multi hole style, hard to describe lol, nothing special but for £60 as they need 2 new tyres, but i can take 2 of the best golf tyres off

head unit, and 6x9's

gti grill, grill spoiler and gti badges

also i need new boot hydraulic lifter things

any other thoughts, oppinions appreachiated

cheers all

sam

If I was 15 I'd do nowt other than trying to make it as tidy as possible. When you are 17 you will need to insure it and if it's modded you'll have a nightmare.

yes im taking this into consideration, i think, with the vw 14in alloys i can get for £60, lower it a bit, an eyebrow on the front and the m3 lights, that ill be able to get away with saying its standard, but itll still be pleasing to the eye at all angles

combined with a tidy system, plan to have a 15in sub in the boot to the one side to still have boot space, 2 6x9's on the parcel shelf and a decent head unit, and door speakers

oh and to get the car as tidy as possible, but thats hard work, not money, plus ive got 6 400ml cans of hammerite spraypaint (almost a color match) to treat the rusted areas,

please tell me if this is relatively realistic

Welcome to the wonderful world of empty pockets and lost weekends

please tell me if this is relatively realistic

Sounds like you're on the right track to me  probably best not to modify it too much til you've built up a bit of no-claims or they'll sting you on insurance.  You could have a word with martinb (our resident insurance expert) and find out exactly what mods you can get away with as there are some they don't mind

the rims are standard veedub u should be able to pick some up for less than a ton i reckon, and they will fit straight on and work fine, also cos they standard part they shouldnt affect ur insurance

Post by: samjac68 on 10 July 2006, 13:08
well its a matter of not seeing any around, they do look tidy

ive been offered a set of standard vw 14in alloys (newer sort off a polo or summat) for £60 the set what need 2 new tyres, they look pretty tidy, also onto a set of 14in wolfrace alloys off a mazda for £40 but not sure on the fitment (aware that ill have to swap the tyres over but that aint a problem )

cheers all

sam

yeah - stay with veedub parts - also, the guys on this forum rock too!  they'll be MORE than happy to help out!!

i've got a set of golf steelies to go on my jetta.  i painted the centres gloss black and the rims satin silver - it's something different, but it cost me a few tins of primer, spraypaint and some lacquer!

nice CHEAP but different mod???

i should post a pic really . . . . .
