Title: 8v gti grinding noise

my 8v gti keeps making a short grinding noise when pulling away in 1st gear its quite loud. it only does it sometimes and rarely it will do it if im rolling very slowly and pull away in 2nd gear. it doesnt do it at speed changing through the gears and it only seems to do it when the clutch is coming up. the clutch is not slipping or anything so im stuck
any ideas anyone

1st check the dust cover on the back of the gearbox, its round the back above twhere the driver side driveshaft connects :)
