You've decided!
I've locked this now so say goodbye to it!
-
i personally don't think so.
i also think the designer at Porsche is the laziest fecker in the world!!
if you get this month's Top Gear magazine there's a pic of the Boxster from the ground; the writer comments how it looks like a Cayenne
just my 2 cents
-
i dont think a boxser is a real car!
-
Great car, it's just a bit sad the sort of buyer who's attracted to them these days. Middle aged women and teenage plumbers! BMW need to make a more expensive mini to cater for them:grin:
-
That would depend on whether said man cuts hair for a living or not
-
NOBBERS!!!!!!!!!!!
Your just green eyed ladies!
-
Yes it is a man's car. It's a good car just with a crap image. I'm sure if it didn't look like it wants to be a 911, it wouldn't have that image...
-
Fook me i voted wrong
If i needed a family motor I'd get a 911    Must go polish my helmet  :smug:
-
VW sharans are family motors mate - Stop being a tight wad and cough up then we can race
-
Feck off - the lot of ya!!!
Round my way, the middle class ladies who lunch much prefer SLKs and hairdressers prefer TTs and Mini cabs.
That leaves Boxsters to retired gents and 30's IT consultants, accountants and solicitors like me.
Bugger - thats worse!!
what matters is how it drives - and the fact we can see through the image problem. besides, does any Roadster have a 'good' image? I'd prefer a box to a Z4, slk (withstanding AMG) or TT.
Of course, given infinite spending power, I'd have a 997 GT3 or a F430. Then again, I'd still want something open topped to hoon around in - so it'd be a Boxster S.
-
boxter S is a cracking car... great handling quite quick gets my thumbs up deffo

Race you Phatone! Nah fella, I'd rather be washing my hair :smug:
-
Don't be daft I meant in my Kangoo 1.5 DCi to give you a fighting chance
-
Is that the one with the extra head room :smug:
-
Very good
-
The Boxster's image problem is solely down to Clarkson's comment that Boxster drivers are just those that can't afford a 911 - which is ridiculous. My Dad had a series 1 Boxster S and I took the mick out of him something chronic when he got it....until I drove it. It is surprisingly quick, planted and sounds lovely. He now has a series 2 Boxster S on 19"s and I love it even more. If it were my £50k I wouldn't buy either a Boxster or a 911 though.
-
My mum, 2 aunts and a female cousin all drive or have owned boxters......... that answer the question?
-
I dont think it is a mans car, though I wouldnt turn a boxter s down. If i was spendin that kind of wedge on anything Id rather get a used 911 that a newer boxter
-
Go and order a Farboud gts, much more car for your money

Well hold on I don't think anybody is slating the boxster here, but it certainly has an image problem. As do most cars in that category. Everybody knows it's a very capable thingy extension
Although if we're getting childish, I did absolutely waste a boxster (not an s mind) in my 1.3 fwd toyota starlet....
... not that plenty of tuning and driver capability came into play at all
-
Well hold on I don't think anybody is slating the boxster here
I am. And I will continue to wind people up about it
Nah I'm kidding, it's not just a car for girls. If you are one of these 'men' (term used loosely) you could drive one too.

-
Matt - lets not rise to it!!!
We will enjoy our mid engined rear drive sports cars, just as much as we enjoy our front engined front drive shopping cart GTis
-
 I love the way the Boxter 3.2 s drives
-
Get in your old ladies 4x4 biatch!!!!

Brittish engineerings the best!!
-
It does look seriously cool, and of course British Engineers are the best
Been one all my life
-
by driving a boxster you're just shouting to other motorists you can't afford a 911...
If any of the boxster driving community fancy a little race I'm more than up for it in my FWD shopping trolley ;)
-
I CAN'T AFFORD A 911, I CAN'T AFFORD A 911.
Well not one of those shiny 997s that the Doc is getting
-
Lets have a day at the Strip, see how our shopping trolleys fare against those big butch boxters.............. il bring the Linvoy the Leon, shud have him bk in a few weeks...... muhhahahahahahahahhaha Supercars can suck my nuts
-
It was tongue in cheek Jord. But, running standard, isn't a Boxster faster than a leon Cupra R? Its certainly significantly quicker and more aurally satisfying that a TT 225.
Anyways, its the twisties handling, brakes, economy, comfort and residuals I appreciate the Boxster for, not the grunt.
-
and the fact you can get matching handbags and earrings

and the fact you can get matching handbags and earrings
BOO YEAH!!!!!! good one toph
an yeah, but only on paper, an as for handlin, iv driven a hella lot of cars and iv gotta say the cupra R is probably the best set up standard car iv driven. Touring car handling !
-
. . . and I thought I'd heard it all
So what touring cars have you driven?
-
Dude .......... did u not know i Drove BTCC last year?
You didnt?
Well thats cus i didnt but thats beside the point, have you driven a cupra r?
-
My homosexual next door neighbour has a Cupra R in black. He says its a lovely car for cruising to the salon, lots of space for styling equipment and lawnmowers for his uphill gardening activities.
It gets the mean boys excited, which is a big boon for him.
Has been known to break the odd nail on the downgraded brittle Seat interior trim (that low down stuff where u put your handbag), but other than that, it drives very nice and handles the Trafford Centre car park with aplomb.
And I agree - for a mk4 platform, the Cupra R I test drove seemed nice and sharp. Had I been looking at a new Mk4 turbo a few years ago, I would deff had one of these.
-
Yes I have driven and re-mapped planty of Cupra R's and I have also driven and remapped ex-touring cars and the two are miles apart from each other as they would be! For a start one costs 15k the other costs 150k up! and one is for the road and one is ONLY for track!
BTW it's not besides the point it IS THE POINT - you said "cupra R is probably the best set up standard car iv driven. Touring car handling"
I have clearly driven a LOT more cars than you have. I wouldn't say that the cupra R is anywhere near the best standard set up car on the road, for example the MK5 Golf GTi runs rings around it as the CUPRA R is based on the old Mk4 Chassis - abeit at its best bar the Mk4 R32 (IMHO).
BUT I do like the Cupra R A LOT
-
...................bet you havnt driven a rocket tho!!!...........
on a serious note, Doc, is it possible to get a Cupra R to run 400+BHP?
-
NP for about 15 mins...
-
Right - just seen this thread!
This needs to be split into two...
A boxster is a hairdressers car without question...I had one once but only for several months as got bored with the how much for a cut comments... Seriously roadsters are quite often driven by people who are more concerned with looks over ability...if you like driving you wouldn't really buy a convertible would you? (TVR exception!) Cayman slightly different...more power, twice as stiff as a Boxster...Porsche engineers admit best handling Porker ever...only underpowered slightly with "only" 295bhp so that it doens't undercut the 997.
I have to say that as I put a deposit down on a Cayman S today for collection next week. Having driven it for a bit yesterday, it does seem to handle more sweetly than my previous two 911s.
As an aside, GTI served its purpose as a good car to have whilst I decided which route to go on the next car...it is for sale...see For Sale section...sorry shameless plug
