Title: A mans car
Post by: The Doc on 06 July 2006, 14:46
Like the poll asks  "Do you think I could get my head into a 997 Porsche Turbo?"

The reason for this is that I am holding out for the R36 in March with the idea of superchargers etc and keeping it for a while but my dealer is telling me that it may go to the USA ONLY?

So I'm think I'll keep my new R32 (in subtle silver) and sell off some excess vehicles that we have finished working on and buy me another 911 Porker (HARD TOP).

I have just donned my flameproof suit

If I had the money for a 911 I'd be far too busy driving it to post on here   I love those cars

Whats this R36 then - I'm guessing a 3.6 monster

HELL YEAH to the Turbo

I had a nose around a Cobolt Bule at the dealers last week, that motor is a MONSTER!  It looks sooooo cool and even looks fast without turning a wheel.  The offer of swapping my ladies car for the Turbo was refused

Matey, if you've the money then get it done......  I'll hate you, but that's cool

If you'd like a decent dealer then I'll send you some details................

If its a viable option go for a 997 - its going to be considerably better than any Golf, supercharged or not.

If it were for me and to be used solely as a fun car, it'd be a 997 GT3 RS for that hardcore edge and better residuals

Title: Re: Do you think I could get my head into a 997 Porsche Turbo?

No idea of the spec boss, but it's a TURBO so what else to think of

Just been reading EVO, worth a read before you go shopping........  The Lambo might just have the edge, but if I were spending 100K then I'd have to look at a 430 Fezza........

Title: Re: Do you think I could get my head into a 997 Porsche Turbo?
Post by: The Doc on 08 July 2006, 17:42
Thanks for your input - I tend to buy the cars I like or need to "research" rather than ones that EVO or anyother mag / person etc tells or thinks I should buy, after all I earned it so I must have the say on what I get right? Plus for all I know you cold be a 15 yr old kid reading your dads car mags

The reason I want the 997 turbo is for playing with as well as "playing" with and I think the spec is to me very important - but hey ho thats just me -I have no good reason to buy a lambo or a ferrari but thanks anyhow

Back on subject I just returned from work and called but the place shuts at 5pm!

I'll call 'em again in the morning on my way to a test day with Land Rover at their Gaydon test site where I'll be driving the new RRS SuperC'd HST on the Land Rover off road test site / on road / around a test track.
Title: Re: Do you think I could get my head into a 997 Porsche Turbo?
Post by: Matt555 on 09 July 2006, 10:04
Have you called yet?

There's nothing wrong with using a respected car mag to get info fella!!  I can't imagine to many people an get out there and drive everything they want too....  It's information, and information is good when your about to spend big bucks on a motor...........

If you want a motor to play about with then the 996 911 GT2 is a fantastic one to tune up.  With a little ECU work you can easily crack 500bhp, and with really strong residual you'd not feel any great pain after a year........

A RRS off road!!!!!!!!!!  Now that's a first

There's ony one proper LR  and that's a V8 Safari   4 months driving them down the Falkland Islands was simply awesome

Let us know how you get on............
Title: Re: Do you think I could get my head into a 997 Porsche Turbo?
Post by: The Doc on 09 July 2006, 18:26
....their closed on Sundays.

Info is one thing but I dont base what I buy on car mags as its down to the tester i prefair to get in the car and find out for myself and I have driven my mates 997t and I love it plus we need 1 for research!

LR was a great day out - the RRSport S/C HST looks and drives very well for a large off roader - after the track drive and the off road sections I wanted one there and then but on the road test it just wasn't fast enough

Fuel economy was 5.3 around town and I got it up to 8.4 on the motorway - not that I mind too much but you must have to fill up daily!

Never mind

I called the Porker center this morning and seeing as it was only 35 mls from Gaydon I thought I'd nip over there when I had finished at LR but they were closed.  I have also located one in Stratstones of Wilmslow which is far more local but I'll speak to both dealers in the morning to see what price and specs the cars have

Thanks for your help!

That's strange!!!!!!  I've been down to the dealer on Sundays before?

Just called to find out that they stopped opening on sundays sometime back.......  I wish I never had to work Sundays!!!!

Good luck.

Yes, strange but true...

I have spoken to Tim today and he said the demo would not be available until Jan / Feb next year and that he is going to see the DP to sort out my price! In the mean time I have found one localy and I'm going to drive it in the next few days...

Thanks for your help!

Next the really hard one! Who can I get to supercharge my R32?

That's the one I have seen I think - was the first in the UK and shown at the Canary Wharf expo I think (well they had the first one and it was cobalt blue)...dealer said they weren't pre-selling yet but that was 4 weeks or so ago...are they offering it?

I f you haven't ordered one already you might have to wait...Q3 2007 delivery at most dealers now I think...managed to get stratford to quote me May 2007 but that was to order one there and then which wasn't going to happen. First ones are for sale already...seen one at £20k + over list
Title: Re: Do you think I could get my head into a 997 Porsche Turbo?

I have found another one for with 500 miles on it for immediate delivery far closer and in the same colour - this blue seems to be popular!

It's got a higher spec too!

Once I've seen it I'll decide what to do but the local one seems a much better deal as its available now with low miles

Slick -

I'm sure you will go into it with you eyes wide open - but my first Porche (a 944) I bought in 1998 still haunts me  In the end, despite spending \£Â£Ã‚£Ã‚£Ã‚£ on it and eventually getting it right, I was delighted when it went

If you think an old mk2 can be expensive, you can soon shell out much more than the purchase price just keeping the fecker on the road. mine was at the awkward age and mileage (12 years and 100k) where all the consumables are shagged and need replacing at once - it was a mint one owner though.

Good luck!!!

sends shudders through my wallet.

You haven't said how much over list it is going for...the ones I have found were £20k +...would you really be willing to pay that much given in 12 months time they will be at best at list...same story with the M5 when it came out...I ran mine for a month, sold at 10% over list, then 6 months later I could have bought a very similar car for about 6% less than list

Very true - only the very rich or impatient would pay those premiums.

I have been tempted to place orders in advance on supercars and hope to benefit from the premiums - always bottled it though...

Charri, that would work.  The ONLY tHing I'd have to do is keep it for 12 months, no hardship there.  Also if I ordered the next gen Mini Cooper S now I'd get one of the first...  Now you may ask what i'm waiting for?

Does the R32 fit into your new fleet? and what a deal on the Phaeton - good work.

We are all waiting for a breakdown of the new proposed fleet, coz we're all jealous as hell and can not keep up!!

Does the R32 fit into your new fleet?
YES ITS MY DAY TO DAY PERSONAL USER!

and what a deal on the Phaeton - good work.
SAD TO SEE IT GO AND IT WAS A VERY CHEAP CAR WITH NICE SPEC BUT HEY HO ITS SERVED ITS PURPOSE - I can now lower its stance by 15mm! - this should be applicable to the Bentley GT, Flying spur and Audi A8 also!

We are all waiting for a breakdown of the new proposed fleet, coz we're all jealous as hell and can not keep up!!
THAT WONT BE HAPPENING ANY TIME SOON!

Doc - do you offload your car through your trade contacts? or the misery of private sales?
I BUY CARS "TRADE" IF I CAN AND SELL 'EM TRADE ONCE WE HAVE DONE WHAT WE NEED TO DO WITH THEM!

The MINI will be here long term as I've wanted one for ages and have never owned one PLUS I can't see it looing much

The 997t is more for research (dash/second mems and chiptuning) at the mo PLUS I can make profit on that too when it goes!

Yes - order one now. I ordered the next gen Cooper S about 10 months ago (and a Cooper S Traveller)...first in the queue for both at my dealer. Certainly 6 months very cheap motoring if not a lot longer (especially if they drip feed them in as they did with the first gen back in 2002 for the first year)

Hi Virage / Matt,

Do you know when the Cooper S will be available from? Will it be from launch?

Will it be sufficiently different to the current Cooper S to command a small premium? I am tempted myself for 6 months almost free motoring.

Any piccies of the new one yet?

Chris

Do you have access to a Rolling Road and all the dyno kit Doc? - or are the programs sophisticated enough to run hypothetical remaps?

Thats quite a nice toy for work!!!!

Have fun -  an ex colleague picked his up at the weekend and thinks it is utterly amazing. Just like a 996 TT - only better everywhere../.

You dont need a rolling road to remap most cars as I sell them over the internet! - the checksums are the biggest problem these days. Long gone are the days when every car has to be re-mapped individually - unless it's had modifications from standard.

There is a local dyno that can take upto 2500 BHP - I use that if and when it is needed to tweek the programs initially along with some major tuners that I know in Germany.

I was shocked at how easy it was to get hold of one of these cars - I thought it would take months but they seem to be everywhere - at the moment!

ho ho ho I know what comes next e.g.

A real man would be looking at the 'widow maker' 996 911 GT2

Just been reading EVO, worth a read before you go shopping........  The Lambo might just have the edge

If I were spending 100K then I'd have to look at a 430 Fezza........

If you want a motor to play about with then the 996 911 GT2 is a fantastic one

That's strange!!!!!!  I've been down to the dealer on Sundays before?

Personally I hate big cars so you're welcome to it!

SHOWOFF-  u must be making up for a small C%*k!!!!!!!!hahahahahhahah

Have you had all the doorways widened in your house so you can get your head through??

the only thing you should be buying is a sence of human bypass (??? sence of human???)

you know something doc i think ure head is gonna grow out ure arse one of these days...

u know just as quickly god has given u all these cars he can take them off u just as quick.        ( THANKS GOD BTW )
