Title: Quick question about 8v speedo
Post by: mutant on 06 July 2006, 09:24
Just a quick question.  My newly acquired 8v shows 160 on the clock, with REALLY LOW mileage.  My guess was that the milage wasnt genuine and it was a speedo from a 16v, as all I've seen in 8v's show 120.  Were there any 8v's introduced with 160 on the clock?  It's an '87 if that helps.

Thanks!

My '89 8v had 120 on the clocks, my '90 8v has 140 on the clocks.  AFAIK only the 16v came with 160 clocks standard.

Yep, 8vs got 120 & 140, 16v got 160.  Check the rev counter as well, if the redline starts at 6k they're 8v clocks, if its at 7k theyre 16v clocks.
Speedos can also be swapped between clocks easily to confuse things further

Yeah, redline is at 6k.  Hmm, guess I was right then, none genuine mileage.  Ah well.

Thanks guys

I never trust the milage reading, especially if its low.  I set my price on the condition of the car.  We all know how unreliable the milage counters can be, even if the dash clocks havent themselves blown up

The price I paid I knew it wouldn't be genuine.  Still, never hurt to hope :p
