Title: lights problem wiring??

right bought the cabby yesterday and lastnight noticed that there was a bit of smoke coming from the headlights well anyway we turned em off and ive checked them this morning to find that the plastic connectors for the main beam are smouldering and melted!!, anybody know a possible cause for this? any help appreciated! ;-) cheers

Running a too high wattage bulb probably and it's frying your wiring and/or maybe they've put a wrong fuse in the fuse box for the lights so it's allowing the high wattage bulb to fry your wiring. 

Also, check your wiring, maybe it's starting to perish somewhere.

cheers gibby im not messing with it myself im going take it to the main dealers to get all the work done and maybe a new part wiring loom if needed, just want to make sure its mechanically perfect before we go santapod, with old cars we need to be careful, not had one this old for years!

No worries, but why take it to a stealers ? Take it to a local auto electician.

well after ringing up for a quote from main dealers (lakeside vw) ive decided to get a diagnostic bloke out from speed tune! gonna cost £50 for a definate answear! because its also ticking over quite high and ive found a few more probs in the last half hour whilst trying to find things wrong with the car whilst ive got the money to fix it!

speed tune were a waste of space! ended up taking it to the guys at stokevwspares,
im going have to do some  wiring on the car anyway! they told me straight away why i could smell burn lets say!, they said they didnt know how the car was still running! all the earths had melted and the connectors on the headlights have melted, had to almost re-wire under the bonnet before we went wales lastnight! going finish it off today! fit new stereo etc... it is good on fuel tho does 40mpg with the roof down, anyway starting on it early so i can get iot finished and ice'd up for dinner time!
