Title: APR Reflash
Post by: DubaiJohn on 04 July 2006, 05:59
Hi guys,

I've been doing a bit of research into getting the APR reflash for my gti. Just wondering if anyone on here had, had it done and has any feedback?

Also is it true that the code in not detectable by VW?

Mine has it (Done by Awesome GTi by the previous owner).

I am definately not the sort of person that would have ever considered "chipping" their car, but I have to say it's well worth it.

Having driven standard gti and R32, I can confirm (and the dealer that supplied the car agreed) that the car is easily as quick as an R32 (not the same traction of course).

I was expecting the car to need more revs, but the remap has improved the torque also. The final icing on the cake is that fuel economy overall is up.

I swapped into the gti from a 4.2 S4, and was expecting to be dissapointed. Clearly not quite as smooth as the V8, but surprisingly poky.

Hope this helps. Welcome to come and have a ride if in the Surrey area...

Ed.

Oh, and as for being undetectable - anything is detectable, but you have to look for it - and I shant be asking them to look. I certainly wouldnt expect a dealer to notice - it's hard work just getting them to undertake the service requirments properly!

extra 40 ish gg's, more torque, better economy.
Plenty of companies doing similar. I can only comment on the APR remap, as this is what I have, and I am very happy with it. Awesome are doing this for 500. Dont forget you need to tell your insurance company..

I've done a bit of research into this and apr seems to be the most respected vendor. Both in the UK and the US. Look at www.goapr.co.uk for info well worth it, it seems.

I'm also not the throw a big exhaust at it and loads of neon kind of guy, but this APR thing has tickled my fancy.

One slight problem.....I live in Dubai and can't find a distributor out here that does it.

There is a tuning company that send you a jobbie (tech term) with the code on and you plug it in yourself.
Blue somthing - sorry i am not being very helpful, but this could be an option for you?

Since I got mine 30% a/b roads 30% motorway 30% town 10% full fun, I am averaging 29mpg. 35 on a motorway run.

I can recommend Jabbasport in Peterborough.

I don't know if they carry out MK5 Gti chips but I'm sure they do.  We had our 180BHP Octavia VRS chipped with them, it returned 230 bhp and much better fuel economy.  BUT it needed the brakes and suspension updating to cope with the extra power.  That thing was a beast in a straight line, the misses spanked me when I was driving my Integra.  Chipping is great on a turbo motor, but think about suspension and brakes at the same time................
