hi guys
hopefully i will be buying an '88 gti 8v off a chap on here next weekend. He told me he gets about 44mpg on a decent run.
I have no reason at all to doubt this but just wondered what the rest of you were getting?
sorry for the rubbish question!
cheers

Mines a 92 8v, and I can get 40mpg, if I'm really trying. I'm fairly carefull driving her (mostly!) so average around 38. Which I think is not too bad at all. Don't always go with what the MFA says, like most of the MK2 instrument panel, it has been known to have it's moments!

Ive got a 1992 8 valve & ussually get 26.7 mpg according to the mfa!!!!! It will do a lot better but weres the fun in that! Im more into smiles per gallon than miles per gallon!!!!
-
The old 1.8 lump on my GTI used to get 30 if I was driving like an old woman, but now my 2.0 gets 40 easily :)
I think my old lump was well worn and down on compression.

Dont worry about the question mate ! If you dont ask you wont get  Oh and mine does about 38 mpg on average
-
i regularly see 42-43 mpg from my 8v...
-
Motorways = 40mpg,
In town = 27-28mpg.
2.0 16v.
-
'88 16v
I get about 28 - 35mpg
The 8v's aren't quite as thirsty.

i get anywhere between 35 - 48 (which is my record lol)
-
Anything between 14 - 30 mpg (lower in town high on the motorway)
Thirsty b!tch!
1.8 16v
-
Maybe it's all that body kit weighing it down?
-
27ish around town....32-34 motorway. 1.8 16 valve.
-
Um, when I drive it I'm getting anything from 20-25mpg, when the other half drives she's getting about 30-32. So I stick to driving the diesel!
1.8 8v.

On my 8v digi usually around 35mpg combined motorway/town. Drops to 25mpg when giving it some. Best i can usually get is 42mpg but that is being REAL economic.... With my recent experiements with acetone (update to come when i am finished) i actually made it up to 51mpg!! But again that was driving like a girl......
