fcuking gearboxes are starting to get on my nerves!!! bought one which was fine for an hour then the diff started locking up so lost money on that one and bought another which was apparently fine and the guys that took it off were "really happy with it" how? it has a second gear crunch, jumps out of reverse unless you hold it in and when you accelerate it feels like its slipping a notch or something but this is on every gear, you just feel it bumping over and over,bump bump bump really rhythmically. so im told by a few people that fresh gearbox oil might fix the problem, so ive decided to attempt that before getting a 3rd box, question is, does anyone else think that new gearbox oil will fix the problem or am i wasting my time and should just get a new one as i only have another two weeks before i cant get my money back on the box i have at the moment, further more does anyone have a 8v gti gearbox that is definatly working properly that they would sell me? cause this is rally starting to get to me now! :angry: :angry: :angry:

I'd either get my money back or get them to change the oil. No point you should be out of pocket. If the gearbox isn't doing it's job then they should supply another one.
Haven't got a GTi box just yet but I am looking at the three broken ones and reckon I'll probably fix each of them properly so watch this space!

That one sounds buggered as well mate, dont think gearbox oil is going to fix jumping out of reverse, and it defo isn't going to fix that bumping in every gear, sounds like one of the gears has lost a tooth!
This time buy one you can try out for yourself first, and replace the gearbox oil straight away. Yours may have been low when they fitted it, and after you've been driving it everyday its been damaged.

Gearbox oil won't do f**k all, unless it can re-weld a tooth onto a gear cog. The crunch will be the synchromesh going, and the bump sounds like one (or a few) teeth are missing. As for the jumping out of reverse, well it's safe to say it is buggered.
I know you are getting these done by the local scrappy, but tbh i would cut my loses and get the money back. There are plenty of people around that can help, and getting a decent box isn't too hard. If you can go without the car for a week, source a box, and get some help fitting it then you should be sorted.

im fairly confident i can fit one myself now so luckily i dont have to worry about paying out anymore for that, i just phoned the place i got this one from and they say they will replace it but obviously i have to get it there and that means disabling my car so ill have to plan it so i can blagg a lift from someone, this is so annoying!!!!!
