Wife's car stopped suddenly yesterday,(94 golf 1.6 ABU)after checking the usual, found there was no spark. There was power at the coil and the dizzy, auto electrician tested coil and said the module was knackered. He said that i could relace the module on the inside of the coil housing for about £15 or buy a coil complete with module for about £35-£40.What should i do,as he said he couldn't guarantee 100% that it would cure the problem??

Probably replace it, hope for the best
-
Change it. At least you know you'll have a good one for when the bad weather comes, or for October - whichever occurs first...

got a good coil and module assy here from a running ABU engined Golf, £15 plus carriage, was running this morning.

nice 1

i was driving my mk3 2.0 16v and it stopped suddenly at about 60 mph an the a22. called rac don't think he knew what he was talking about but i checked the cambelt which hadn't seemed to have snapped although it was a little slack. when you turn the key you just get a sort of whirring noise. same as you do when the belt has snapped!!! any ideas? would the coil pack have the same effect? cheers jay
p.s sorry to thread hi-jack!

Check for spark at the dizzy and the ht leads.

bad news! 8 inlet valves bent! all belts need replacing etc etc. oh well, i suppose i could park it outside the house and sit inside pretending to drive it!
-
oh bugger!!
-
apparently it has a special edition engine and the parts are more expensive and difficult to get hold of! anyone heard of this before, 1996 2.0 16v

just got the car back. £275! that doesnt sound too bad for camelt failure. what you think? feels much more responsive too!
