Title: Optimax for mk2's ???
Post by: workhorse '90 8v on 16 December 2003, 15:00
What do you mk2 owners reckon to running on shell optimax?

obviously its gonna be better than standard stuff
but is it really gonna be worth the extra bucks?

its 83.9 a litre here !!!   6p more than the standard stuff

am i gonna get that back in extra mpg?

I only use Optimax, simply because my 8v runs better on it compared to super or unleaded, I think I get slightly improved economy too but the main reason I use it is because it makes my car feel that bit more responsive 8)

Or maybe I'm just a sucker for Shells marketing ;)

have a look on the inside of your fuel flap, it says to run the car on 98RON fuel, and what is optimax??? 98RON

Super UL is 97RON
UL is 95RON

optimax is the best for your car

I fully understand that it is BEST for my car and is what I SHOULD be running on.

However, at the moment its a question of cost.
At 83.9 a ltr i would get 23.8 ltrs for ?20

whereas 77.9 for standard fuel i'd get 25.7 ltrs

nearly 2 whole extra ltrs

which is bugger all !!!

fair enough i've convinced myself (with the help of you lot)

Right, i'm off down the Shell station, where's my cheque book ;) ;)

I use Optimax in my mota, simply because it is a performance car and says 98 ron on flap :)

i've often thought about chucking some of that stuff in !

its got a certain ring to it  L - R - P    ;)

what does anyone "reckon to that" ?

OK listen up b!tches  ;D

Your neares Shell garage selling Optimax can be found on this link

http://www.multimap.com/clients/places.cgi?client=shell&lang=en&db=GB

Optimax can only be bought at a shell garage and the pump that dishes it has a bit of a giveaway blue mk2 as it says optimax on the pump ;).

I have been told in the past that LRP (lead replacement petrol) eats away at the engine internals as it has more cleaning stuff in it or summink so I stay well clear. At the end o de day my mota says 98 Ron on the inside of the filler cap, how much more do you need ?

Go oop to the max...It worth its weight in gold.
It can be expensive in some areas. Been lucky I get mine at 77.7p per litre.

In a week, 28.95 litres of optimax has done me 205 miles. U know gti pulls away quicker, with optimax it goes wilder.
I was a doubting thomas when it was first promoted but sampled it on MK2 CL then and it made me smile. Now giggle when overtaking in my gti. Numerous motorists have confirmed its benefits so I do believe it works.
