hi new to the forum so here goes
i have a 1991 16v golf 3 door in grey just had the head rebuilt and now when it is warm it wont start turn the key and sounds like a flat battery sound do you think i could be out with the timing marks what i noticed was when i was putting the timing belt on and lined the mark on the flywheel up the mark on the cam would not line up so i had to put it a tooth out should i have gone the other way or could it bee something else hope this makes sense

Hmm..... I don't think you line up the marks on the toothed cam pulley and crankshaft pulley with each other. The toothed cam pulley lines up with a mark on the camcover and the mark on the crank pulley lines up with a mark on the block. There should be no doubt as to which is the correct belt position, one tooth either way and its usually well out. Done a couple of these now and never had an issue (the 'flywheel' is not used in this operation). You sure the cam sprockets/chain are lined up OK as well? You sure you have the right belt? :undecided:
