Title: 6x9`s or not??
Post by: Hot Stuff on 27 June 2006, 15:38
Hi all,

Was looking at getting some 6x9`s in the Golf, but OH said not too as stereo sounds alright as it is - I dont think so and think it would sound better with some nice 6x9`s in!!

All ive got is a 10" Sony sub and amp, which i can run the 6x9`s off of aswell!

What you think? And what would you reccommend??

Yes get some 3 way 6 x9's they will help fill all the sound spectrum.

As you already have Sony then get the same in 6 x 9's. Its what I've got and they sound great.

Oh they will make a huge difference! It fills the car with sound.

I'm assuming that these will go on parcel shelf of some description?

In my other car (405 Mi16) I have them in the front doors and 7 x 10's inthe parcel shelf!!! Plus a 12" sub!  That sounds quite good!

I know, they will make alot of difference, sometimes i think he just dont want me to have a better sound system than him! (all his got is 6x9`s coz he cant fit nothing else behind the seats)

Yeah, they would go on parcel shelf, was thinking about a stealth shelf, so their 'hidden'  but not sure how pricey one would be!  :undecided:

Just seen one on www.auto-acoustics.co.uk for £59.53!

But once they stick on all their crap, £107.89!!

Sorry, but 6x9s are no where near as good as comps are. Get a decent set put in and set up properly (crossovers always help) and they will sound a million times better than 6x9s do.

ATM it just sounds a bit bland, if you know what i mean, needs something else to crank it up a bit and make it more  :smug: instead of  :undecided:

Sorry I was assuming that you had upped your original VAG door speakers!

If not then yeah do that first. And if ya want a really bright sound put 3 ways in the front doors as well as the dash tweeters!

deffo dont get 6x9s! like the guys have said get a good set of component speakers for the front and run them off the amp. The sound will be so much better. having speakers in the parcel shelf will only drag the sound stage back to way behind you so your not getting the best of it.

Gotta slightly disagree.

I did the doors/components swap first then wanted more and got the 6 x 9's which was a great improvement!
Then did the sub and that made everything fit!
Wouldnt change or add anything!

Yes the sound is behind you but its a fuller sound I feel.

But thats just my personal opinion and maybe my ears aint as good as they used to be!

I think il do the door speakers first, as if i did get 6x9`s id have them on a stealth shelf anyway, wouldnt want them on show, if im then still not satisfied, then il get the 6x9`s

Oh yes thats deff the way to go first!

Depends what power your Headunit is, as to whether or not you should amp the fronts.

I hear you len, but neither of what we have said is incorrect. You possibly will get a fuller sound from having 6x9s, but the sound stage will be brought back, ie we are both right. I see it as a question of quality or quantity. In my mk3 iv just got the focals amped in the front and a sub and it sounds awesome. Its loud enough to damage the ears but good quality too and it sounds best exactly where im sitting.

I would also say youd be best to amp the front speakers no matter what hu you had, unless the amp is crap and less powerful that the unit, then theres not a great deal of point in having it atall. throw some decent comps in the front, amp them up and see what you think when running them alone with the sub. I certainly wont be going back!
