Title: Wheel arch trim
Post by: jamy99 on 27 June 2006, 11:08
Why do some Mk 3s have plastic trim round the wheel arches and others dont?

My R reg GTI 16v has trim, but I saw another R reg non gti yesterday without trim.

It's a GTI thing, sets em apart from the lower spec models :)

They also fit in my lower spec GL, as well as a glued-on spoiler and VR6 grille which confuses people! Kinda old school looking nowadays but yeah you do see new minis with em, and they hide the rust well

I dunno if the owner of a very smart MK3 Golf (part of reg being 999 DUB) visits this forum, but I was parked near to that and a lovely A reg Mk1 golf GTI in Stockport the other day, and felt a bit embarrassed that I am a faker

From my understanding the wheel arches were fitted on the VR6 models but only until 95, after this the arches were not not fitted for models on P & R reg plates as standard. I did speak to my local dealer some time back and asked the same question. They did say though that some VR6's they supplied did infact have the arches at the customers request.

Hi,

I have a Mk3 GTi with the wheel arch trims, and am wanting to remove them (too much plastic for my liking).

Has anybody removed them before, because I was wondering if they leave any marks, holes, or other nasty looking things?

Thanks

i think they look much better without the plastic trim. much smoother. As far as removing it goes i gues it would depend if they had been screwed on or not, only one way to find out though. If they come off and leave a bunch of holes and rust etc you can always put them back on!

I might have a look into removing the plastic trime. But then i guess if you remove the wheel arches u also need to do the side skirts and the bumpers.....could get complicated. Im going to take one of my arches off and see if there are any holes (my guess would be there is!)
