Post by: tonsofun on 26 June 2006, 13:25
Hi, i bought a mk2 golf for a project, not my first, doubt it'll b my last!

Would like to get in the dub projects part of the site, but a bit new here and cant work out how to PM 'JV' lol

heres wat i'm doin....

Mk2 golf driver > 200 horses or fun

2.0 16v, very highly tuned
Lowered and bushed
'Cleaned' and tidied bodywork
Steelies'
Weight reduced...lots

Want a fast, std looking mk2, hopefully a very clean looking motor, with a  hell of a bite

Sounds good. To pm jv go to anyones project page. You will see that the 1st entry was created by jv (look to the left of the 1st page) from there you should be able to click on the pm icon below his name. Voila!

You need to get to 10 posts before the pm system becomes active :)

Can you get 200bhp from a naturally aspirated (sp??) 2.0 16v? I've seen one with 178bhp before, but not 200bhp...

Reducing weight will help you LOADS, as I'm sure you're aware. I have a 143bhp from my 8v. I can remember someone some chap removing as much as 200kg+ from his car which boots the bhp-per-tonne massively.

Good luck and keep us updated you craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazy mofo

Well as for the wheels, i'm goin to get a set of G60 15' steelies (look very std to an untrained eye), and i've found some reasonably priced 6-pots to stop the thing, not sure about the rears yet (not goin to b very heavy, discs may b too much and lock)

As for 200 horses...the engine is bein/been built by the same guy who re-works hAads for aston martin, to make the DB9R, and build subaru pro-drive rally engines...he rekons its possible, and i've had nearly everything possible done, will see the results this year wen it finished and dyno'd!

Will get my posts to 10 and PM you.....will this be ok to get in there, got a few photo's i took of wk carried out since gettin it!

umm..i'm still optimistic, i seen a 225bhp 2.0 16v rocco on throttle bodies! so cant see why not, will hav to wait and see, either way, it aint goin to be slow!

well let me know if you find someone who has one, will be interesting to read about, i think there is a mk2 tornado pink somewhere not far off 200bhp.

look in performance VW 08/05, features a mk1 golf race car, 2.0 16v n/a at 200hp, and a mk2 scirocco running 225hp!

The scirocco i seen alot on the 1/4 mile races, and is very very fast (13.7 quarter mile from a FWD), and produces 225bhp from a 2.0 16v on throttle bodies, the guys name is Paul Bargate!

not sure about the rears, my gti's lways had problem with lockin the rear wheels into corners and stuff, and with NO weight in the back, think it will make it worse, the drums provide a good handbrake, and should lock as easy with the foot brake (obviously if i find i hav a problem wen i drive it i will look into ths more!!

Probably an issue with the rear brake compensator valve seizing up or needing adjustment.  Drums will be fine on the rear, the ammount of braking done at the back is minimal anyway.
