Title: New HU - what should I get?
Post by: Len on 26 June 2006, 10:58
Seems my Sony is giving up the ghost! Single CD is virtually useless and now the radio reception has deminished.

So on the lookout for something new.

Dont know if I want to stick with Sony, as most of my other stuff is that brand - CD changer/amp/some speakers.

But looking to spend £150 to £200 max.
Want a single CD player. Dont need MP3 or Minnidisc coz I wont use it! Want a flip front/face off and a remote control.

Ideas welcomed.

Would have to be a Pioneer DEH-P77MP for me. Slightly over budget but a real quality bit of kit as opposed to all flashing lights :)

Decided that Pioneer aint for me, might suit a Mk 1 or Mk 2 but dont think it'll look right in mine.

So will keep searching!

But seems as I want to keep the multi changer I will have to stick to Sony anyway!

If you want to keep the changer stick with another sony headunit, as a sony changer wouldnt be compatible with different brand aftermarket H/U, however with MP3 CD function, it is making CD changers old hat. if you do want a sony then the Sony CDX-DAB6650 would be a good bet, as its got a hidden CD slot, Face off, and boasts DAB, only costs about 150quid if your not bothered about DAB check out the sony Sony MEX-1GP similar spec, only without the DAB and the radio face is a 1gigabite storage device so you can listen to the music on that,

I like the versatility of the multi changer so will keep it.

Thanks I will check those Sony models out.

Ummmmmm I may not need a new HU! :embarassed:

Accidently hit a button this morning and hey presto far better reception. The AF button.
Have said I'm not into buttons etc. like simple life.

But anyway this button also brings back the TP/TA function. When the signal went due to area (Birdlip)
it all went off again and I had to press the AF button again to make it come back to good reception.

Now is this correct? or have I got a fault in the HU?

Model is Sony CDX - M730

have you tried saving the station after pressing the AF button?

AF button means it will scan for alternate frequencies instead of you having to faf around with it.  but unless you save the station after pressing the button it doesn't remember what to do.

at least that was the case for mini disc player I had  :undecided:

i totally agree, changers are useless now when u consider somthing like the alpine 9850ri with full speed ipod control,

prices range from £199.99-£229.99 fitted. u could then keep ur entire music collection hidden neatly away while u control every function of ur ipod through the h/unit and it will charge the ipod as well,

awsome bit of kit for buget money!

What's a CD changer - I think I saw Tony Robinson dig one up on a episode of time-team once, but don't think I've ever seen one myself.
