Hi, When i switch my heaters on i can hear a sqeeling sound now and again, its horrible, i've been told that the bearings might have gone and the heater motor will need replacing, and are they expensive, can any1 help me, thanks

Had the same problem on my Mk2 GTi 8v. Priced a new motor: £63
Took the old motor out, stripped it down, cleaned the innards and applied a smear of HMP grease to the spindle and hey presto! No more squealing like a pig
-
i had this prob too, i just dont use fans!
joke, my dad fixed it, but it took me a long time to figure out what it was!

lift the bonnet and check the scuttle tray? (black plastic thing that covers wiper motor)
If yours is damaged then this lets rain water drip onto the motor and causes it to sqeel
Replace it with one from a scrappy. cleaning and regreasing it is a right pain

Lift the scuttle & remove the mesh cover over the fan motor, once inside you'll be able to see the spindle of the motor, give it a blast with some WD40 or similar and see if that does the trick - It worked for my Mk1 which was well squeaky after spending 10 years hibernating

Strip it down, give the spindle some grease and the brushes a blast of wd40 it's pretty easy. I've done it on every golf I've had and a they always sound sweet as afterwards.
Last time I had one out I looked in disbelief at the words "made in france" on the motor!!! Ah well that explains why they squeal like a piece of cr@p and are usually the first part to break on a golf!!!

just in case you didnt get it in the first post grease the spindle lol

What do you do again?
