hi mate and cheers, good pun lol
im looking at a 2000 gti 1.8 turbo, seems the 2.0 is a little slow!
but ppl keep telling me theres better cars about and the golf isnt very good anymore, ive looked around and nothing does it for me like the gti does!

well as I am sure you are aware the 1.8 20v turbo has great tuneability, it may have 150/180bhp now, dependant on which varient you get, but a re-map and £500 ish later and that will be knocking on the door or 200bhp, bigger turbo and who knows! great cars and great engines. There are a few

the 2.0's arent great thats for sure, have driven a few of them with work (old work now) as they have them as fleet cars. I dont think there are many better cars for the money that give you the reliability, performance and the tuning potential than the 20vt, plus remember it'll hold its value if you want to get rid of it a year or so later! There are a couple of people on here that have got them and had the remap, have  a read through the mark 4 section for any queries you may have.

yeh it seems to be the best hatch around to hold value and still be a bit of fun.
ive had a z3 for over 5 years as a main car, and i love the german build.
ive got plenty of other cars but the golf will be my sensible driver!

not sure if im gunna mod it yet, but i think a few tweeks just to help it will happen!
