Ive been doing more to my Golf 'Driver' lately, and ive noticed its starting to look a bit CHAV!
Is anyone else seeing this or am i worrying about nothing?
Latest Mods are:
Rear Bonnet lifters
Wheels (soon to be painted spokes black with dish left polished)
VR6 front spoiler
Honestly guys, what do you think?
Do your worst!!!

sorry si but whats the point of the bonnet lifters? and me personally i would change the jetta front as i had one on mine and didnt like it for some reason.
-
Bonnet lifters are great!
I dont think the VR6 spoiler suits really. I also dont like the eye brow spoiler. Im not a fan of square lights either but thats kind of a Marmite subject. Apart from that looking good really.
-
wheels are pretty cool, i really dont like VR6 chin spoilers at all on mk2's and the bonnet lifters are err....different  not really sure about them.... :undecided:
-
swap the front back to the original.... jetta front ends just look bad... well thats what i think anyway
-
looks cool man, how are u finding the new splitter, does it catch every tiny incline in the road there is
on a serious not, the bonnet lifters, i dont understand what they do :undecided:
-
my two penneth.
lose the eyebrow spoiler, bonnet lifters red grill bits and black headlight tape.
-
You can't even see the bonnet lifters and you can get so much more access to the engine without that great big rod stiking up :D
I'd change the front end to a quad light as jetta fronts on mk2's are only for Rallyes otherwise they do give it a bit of a chav look imo.
How did you raise the rear of the bonnet? using brackets? Wheels look cool and will look cooler black and polished other than that not a chav golf unless you wear a Burberry tracksuit lol
-
I like it!!

I think some of us have kinda mis understood you. By bonnet lifters you mean the raised bonnet dont you. I thought you meant you had gas rams to lift your bonnet like you do in the boot.
Anyway im not a fan of the raised bonnet either.
-
The wheels look fine, not sure how they'd look with black spokes and polished rims.
Lose the jetta lights, square lights only look good on the rallye or the jetta, go for round lights. Have a go on dubmodder and try either quad lights or just single lights with a debadged grill.
Bonnet lifters, not worth it unless you mean gas struts to hold the bonnet open, but even then it's not worth it unless you plan to open up and show your engine at meets.
-
A lot of people have that opinion of getting rid of the jetta lights, looks like they are becoming less common, keep them as many others prefer round :P
-
its not that they are less common..they just look sh!t..but thats my opinion..
theres a reason they are called jetta or rallye lites and not golf lights..

Good point Dinx.. :undecided: I guess it's up to him anyways

Si - I liked it when I saw it close up in the flesh so to speak!
Just ditch those bonnet lifters - they really are a bit naff and chavvy!
-
if it was mine, id loose the lifters, and the eyebrows or tape on the lights, maybe replace the indicators with clear lenses. not 100% on the splitter. i like the long eyebrow on the jetta lights and i think the red adds to the retro look.
-
Personally I'd lose the eyebrows and the chin spoiler but it's your car.
I assume lifting the rear of the bonnet is a throwback to beetles running with the engine cover raised to get cool air in?
Some of the guys with Mini turbos run the rear of the bonnet raised to aid cooling but a Mini turbo 'bay is rather crowded.
-
OK, this is just my opinion,, looking at the front of the car, you have almost a dozen different horizontal lines, and thats from the swage on the bonnet, to the top of the bumper! red moulding only adds to the confusion, its too busy! your eye is drawn to it for the wrong reasons..
Jetta headlamps are a little bit ten years ago, the bonnet lifters would look great if the front was a more simple "look" eg standard single round headlamps (not crystal) simple debadged grill, with a fairing, keep the bumper as is, bonnet lifters would then look cool! German plates to finish
Side of car has to be done carefully too! the extra rear door, again means theres too much going on! Painting the wheel centres black, I think is a good idea, not much else to do really, except getting rid of door handles, but that costs $$$$
My opinion is , if your going away from the factory look, keeping it simple is the name of the game!
Hope that didn't hurt

i think it looked its best just before you put the eyebrow spoiler on, umm, the vr front splitter has shown me i definatly dont want one as i was thinking about it, bonnet lifters...why not ey? , have you done something odd to the lights? they look abit upset.... the eyebrow looked ok but for some reason on your car it looked better without, obviously i like the jetta front end as i have one and im hooked now, i dont like round lights on a square car personaly. i actually like those wheels tho, not as nice as your old ones tho
-
i used to run bonnet lifters on my old beetle but that was just to aid cooling and introduce slightly more airflow into the engine area.
-
Cheers for the info guys, ive taken all your views into account and it seems there is pattern forming...
so..........
ive bought a 1989 Mk1 Caddy.! Going for the retro old skool look.
The Mk2 is up for sale (minus the bonnet lifters, vr spoiler, which im scrapping).
-
