How do I do it? I can't see anything that looks vaguely like an idle adjustment screw.
-
Don't know anything about the pierburg but this might help... http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=33259.0
Worth a try anyway! Looks like an idle screw on there somewhere.

Still not sure. HBOL suggests the you turn the idle control valve on the back of the 3/4 unit thing. Can anyone shed any light?
-
there is only a screw in the top which adjusts the CO, if the idle is out then its because something else is wrong, what symptoms are you having :)
P.S. the very LAST thing you should do with a 2e2 is fiddle with any screws or levers!

I have a strange problem with the way the carb is mounted in that there is a lot of movement to the extent that the front of it will pull clear of the mounting flange and the car will cut out. The wierd thing is that the bolts are all tight.
I don't know if the mounting flange is loose or what so I need to get the carb off and have a proper look and replace the gasket etc at the same time. The problem is that I haven't got time to do it this weekend so I wanted to just jack the idle speed up as a temporary fix to stop it stalling at junctions etc.
I also need a shopping list for when I fix it. Gasket between carb and flange is obvious but is there another one between the flange and the inlet, and does the inlet have to come off to get the flange off? It looks to me like it does.

one thing you could do is unplug one of the the vacuum hoses to the 3/4 point unit, this will raise the idle as the plunger will be stuck out all the time. I don't advise driving it with an air leak that size though
There is only 1 carb -> inlet flange, which is just bolted on, no need to remove the inlet :)
Wait, we are talking about a 1.6/1.8 carby MK2 right?
Edit: I think actually if you simply unplug the TTV the 3/4 will stick open... Its all on that diagram in the link above anyway, including vacuum hose diagrams down the bottom.

Is is the rubber flange that the carb is bolted to? as mine perished & split so you could just lift the carb off!!! the only thing holding it on was the airbox!! After this was fixed the carb started behaving it was £40 for a new one from VW.
-
Yeah IIRC the flange is bolted to the inlet, and the carb then bolts to the flange. Its been a LONG time since I last looked at a carby though!

That sounds like exactly the problem I've got. Did you have to remove the manifold to replace it?

Whats the part# for the rubber block on a '89 1.6 driver?
DD

Thanks for that chaps. I've arranged a borrow of my mum's Corsa next week so I can sort this and do the timing belt tensioner at the same time. Next job after that is the paint shop to get the passenger side blown over.
