Title: I want a GTI
Post by: TanK_VW on 19 June 2006, 10:25
Well I thought I could stick with the driver and be happy.... but after test driving a MK2 8v at the weekend there is no way I can stick with the driver.

All i want is a black 3dr mk2 8v unmodded small bumpers low mileage in good conditions, is that asking to much?!

i was in the same predicament as you tanks with my driver but i had a good reason to get rid, my driver was ***cked so i bought an 8v GTi about 2 weeks ago and its lush shame i cant drive it untill september because insurance will kill me!! but oh well. if you have the cash mate and think about insurance etc then go ahead and get one the difference between the driver and the GTi is INSANE

Well i only passed my driving licence this year, the insurance on my driver is £600 and a gti is £800, but i am willing to pay that.

I have talked this guy down to £500 for his GTI, its in really good condition, so i am temped to look past the 5dr thing.... its in atlas grey which i really like, not as much as black of course but second best.  I want to test drive it again, but i want to test it for a day or two.

Why didn't you go for this : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4650330349&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

It's black, got all the electrics and luxuries including ultra rare Air Con, but 5dr.

If I could have been allowed an old skool Mk2 by the Mrs, I would have had it for £500, but it didn't sell.

You got to stick at what you want...

Because there will always be that day where you see a 3dr and you have a 5dr and you think damn shoulda got one...

Keep your eyes out for one and it will come...

I would have 3dr so I cant give people lifts as easy... Sorry I would give you a lift but I cant be bothered to move lol

Look at the description it does say that it has a 1991 spec interior, which obviously doesn't match a 1986 Golf.
Air con was only really available in hot countries like south africa, so it's either an imported car, or was put in later.

My old Mk2 was a 3dr Atlas Grey, it was great apart from when I needed to load it up or give lifts.
5 doors makes it easier to get people in, and also for loading the car up with the seats down.

Depends on what you need the most, do you ever put the seats down and fill the back? How often do you give people lifts?

If you want 3doors, just carry on looking, there are still plenty of Mk2's around.

Quick look on ebay turns up:
