Title: Quick question on Painting
Post by: JMallows on 14 June 2006, 14:17
Hi, i am looking at a golf thats for sale, but it has had the roof resprayed. This isnt too much of a bother as it was for a legitimate reason. I just want to see if its good!

I know it might not be the best approach, but it could give me an idea! How much should it cost to get a roof resprayed, a good quality repair? It should give me an idea, as if he comes back and says £50 when it should cost £150, then it suggests he's scrmped on it, and its not worth looking at? Get my drift?!

Thanks

Just a roof, well if its just plain paint and not metallic then I'd say around £100.
Metallic £150

But it really depends on how pricey the place is! If its one of these "Coachworks" type places then double those prices!

I know what your saying, if its expensive it should suggest better, but may simply suggest more expensive! At least if it was cheaper, i would almost know it werent as good, and not simply "a cheaper job"..... if you know what i mean

He spent £180, on a silver roof, which i dont believe was metallic, so sounds like either done well,  or overpriced, i still cant tell, best go and have a look at it instead!

I'll try and find the bodyshop details, and see if anyone on here has heard of them!

Most silvers are metallic although dont always look like it. Its beacause you have to have a laquer coat.

So maybe £180 aint bad.

Get and have a real good look at it in good light.

Ok, this is what the sellers reply was:

Quote
the guy who did the roof is a one man band, i will get you his address as soon as i find it, he runs his busuness out of a barn on a farm and came recomended to me.

What do you reckon?? I'm worried it may have bits of straw etc... embedded in the paintwork!!?? lol Seriously though, does this necesarily have to be a bad thing?

I was just wondering how good it should be for 180, its silver. He has already done the painting, but i want to last for more than a few months!
