hi guys thanks for the last tip. The soggy motor was due to the windscreen leaking it eventually shorted out the fuse box (all fixed now)
just when i thought i was out of the woods more trouble came :
1. some theiving twit nicked the strips that go down the side of the car All 6 of them apparantly they are hard to get hold of.
2. my battery light keeps coming on if i rev over 3000rpm it goes off. my battery is only a month old so i dont think that is the problem
3. if i boot it the revs get stuck at 2000 rpm when idleing.
Any help on any point would be appriciated

I've seen the side strips on e-bay a few times, keep an eye out on there for them.
If the battery light comes on, it could be because the battery is not getting charge by the alternator at low revs! check the alternator is working ok.

Item 2 sounds like the regulator/brush pack on the alternator. 2 screws to remove it and less than a tenner to replace.

get a voltmeter and test the output of the alternator, should be above 13V if not check terminals and earth are nice and clean, rev engine and see if voltage increases, should be no more than 14.4V if so i'd replace bushes etc, as for idling, try bridging the idle control stabiliser, situated behind bulk head inside engine bay (RHS), the plugs are designed to be mated together for adjustments, this should reduce idle to about 850-900RPM if not i'd suggest replacing stabiliser, have fun!!! if all else fails you could give your car to me and i'll look after it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
