hi Guys,
sorry, need your help again...
last evening i was happily driving along doing about 70mph (it was a duel carriageway) when my bonnet catch came loose (it unscrewed)
and my bonnet flew up, smacked the front of the roof panel and scared the absolute cr*p out of me!
having regained some composure i pulled over and discovered that, where the bonnet had hit the roof, it now had a crease across the whole width, not only that but the bonnet hinges had snapped where the lower of the two bolts connecting them to the bonnet are. in addition the hinges wouldn't and won't return to the 'bonnet shut' position - i'm assuming that the hinges are bent/buckled where they connect to the fixing/panel under the bodywork??
with all this in mind i have three questions:
1. will i need a new bonnet of is it worth getting the 'old' one fixed?!
2. how much, roughly, can i expect to pay for a secondhand bonnet?
3. where can i get the hinges from? ie. secondhand or should i get them new?
other than that, any other advice is extremely welcome!
thanks in advance for you time and help

Sh1t dude, scarey stuff. Hope you're ok.
What mk1 is it ? cab or tintop ?

aaarh yeah, didn't mention that did i!?
it's a 1983 Lhasa Green 1.8 Campaign tin top - which is just as well judging by the noise it made when it hit the roof!
ha, yeah very scary, although wasn't actually looking at the road when it came up so could've been worse!
and yeah i'm fine cheers

Right then, in answer to the questions and these are just my opinions -
1) Depends how bad it's bent, I'd probbaly just get a new one and get it painted otherwise you'll be paying to straighten the old one and then paint it and it will never be exactly right anyway.
2) Not sure but check out the link below
3) Same as number 2
Don't know how much help I've been there, but try this guy for spares, --> http://www.golfmk1.co.uk/ He's a main man on the mk1 owners site here --> http://www.vwgolfmk1.org.uk/ and I'm sure he'll be able to sort you out.
