It might be easier just to carefully mask around them and paint on the car.

For a decent job, you will need to either sand them or use a special sort of primer that makes them smooth. (I think - am i right in thinking the non GTi grey plastc trims have a 'bobbly' finish?)
If they are bobbly, the results of spraying straight over it never looks that good IMO.
-
am gonna get all the trim parts direct from dealers in already primered
-
When you get the parts from the dealers, have a look behind and see whats holding them, what kinda clips, that will more or less tell you how to take em off
-
They should just pop off with a bit of gentle persuasion, If you can get the parts unprimed from the dealers then do this, as the factory primer is not always the best :undecided:
-
dont i need to have them rubbed down then as the black ones are slightly bobbly in texture arent they?
-
Buy 'GTi / GT Tdi / V5 / V6 spec ones from the dealer and they will be smooth and ready for paint
-
that was what i was thinkign but gazb thinks that the primer used on them is not good?
-
I am pretty sure that the colour coded ones will come as smooth plastic and be a different part number to the bobbly ones. VW dealer will tell you, but i can't imagine they have to sand them every time they want to replace a strip on a GTi
-
been quoted £136.13 for all four door mouldings in primer
-
You can buy the trims to be colour coded primed or unprimed, Stuff i have had primed off VW has had to be rubbed down and primed again because of the shocking job
-
dont suppose soemone could be kind enough to tell me how to get the bumper bits off without damaging the paint work , is there any guides anywhere please.
-
the easiest way i would have thought so you do not damage paint is to remove the bumper :undecided:
-
taking front and rear bumper off is hardly easy, there must be an alternate solution to this problem.
