how bright are the normal halogen beams? and how well would they light the road up especially down country roads with no lamp posts?
also can you purchase brighter halogen bulbs for these standard lamps woth a blue hue to them?
-
Chalk and cheese - Buy the xenons
-
Crikey! to compare is to insult the Xenons  they really are awesome
-
ha ha yes but the look at the price , £725, thats nearly a grand worth just for headlamps.
-
ha ha yes?
and your point is............??
here's my point.............
Its not nearly a grand its £725 (leaving you enough change from 1K for the lux 2 pack or reverse park sensors) and worth every penny - works out at 6.6p per night over 3 years which is how long most people seem to keep there cars for.
Feck, I'd go to 7p a night easy!!! And you need to remember that your using less electricity with xenons which could well cover 0.6 of this cost.
PLUS: with xenon's you can see better and people can see you better so they could save your life!!! For 6p!!!
PLUS 2: Its worth £725 to Bi-Xenon any noobs that pull out on you - you can see them squinting in their rear view mirror as you burn their retinas out lol I'm sure Matt will agree!
-

Quality Doc!
Dean, you'll get some of that money back when you sell on  And matey they really are the mutts!! During the day at over a ton with your lights on the automatic setting, they'll come on and clear the road in front of you. Bloody magic
We had regular xenons on the A3 and they were dearer than the BI-xenons on the Golf, so they work out great value for money :smug:
I tend to like my blast down the country roads VERY late at night, the Box has awful lights and this dictates the speed. Ok so i don't do anything stupid but I like to hold my speed and be consistant, with the Bi-xenons it's not even a thought!!! They really are awesome matey....... I'll get that pick sorted for you........

There you go :)
-
well that is a big difference, looks like you lot are right! just hope that the stealer will give me money back on options when it comes it trade the car in say 2 to 3 years time.
and is it true the they'll give only 10% back on options?
-
The more spec you have the more re-saleable it will be!
-
Plus the car looks super cool and modern with xenons in the dark!
I'll send you some photos this eve!
-

thats looks great! a nice pure bright white light. what would be interesting to see is what they look like compared to standard golf mk 5 lamps, dunno if you guys are able to get pics of those?
-
Jez Dean, you don't want much fella!!!!
I can't help you with that, but I'm sure someone can!

I can understand Matt and Doc raving about them, but we didn't go for them, falling into the "fook me, that's a lot of dosh for some brighter lights!" camp
- maybe if my job involved night time deliveries I'd have thought it essential, but as is, you are right you should be able to buy some better ordinary bulbs to increase your lighting power for considerably less than £725 - ok, they won't be as good, but you can still make significant improvements for about £30.
And having just returned from a 3 week trip round Europe in the Golf, we managed just fine without.
-
thats kool, what are the best brightest bulbs you can buy for the GTi? I heard PIAA do super bright bulbs, whats the plasma bulbs like compared to halogen bulbs?
-
I do use Piaa bulbs in my non Xenon motors and they are the next best thing - normally around £75-£90 a pair.
BUT if I could I'd of paid the extra on my van etc but you cant get 'em - trying to source some touran xenons at the moment - its like everything pas, abs etc - once you've had 'em and seen just how good they are you cant do without!
-
van = standard bulbs (for now )

So true!
-
I have got them on my merc and will be on my new vw 12 weeks waiting. Urghh, too long. They are awesome, I was tired of being burnt by all the german cars, so got my own back now
-
has anyone tried using blue xenon bulbs like Osram Cool Blue and the Philips BlueVision?? if so are they any good? any pics?
-
just buy the bloody xenons man!!!
blue visions ain't as good as the silver plus bulbs. the blue tint actually reduces the effectiveness of them
-
ILMAO well said - stop being a tight wad and get the things
-
just buy the bloody xenons man!!!

Agreed!
-
-
I don't understand why people still can't accept it. I have halogens on my Mk5 and they are sh1t but thats why I paid £550 odd less for them than xenons. Simple.
-
?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
-
Accept what buddy?
I don't consider £550 to be to much money when I spend most of my time on dark/damp crappy roads! I want the safest and best option....
-
I'm lost also...
