i have golf gti 8v 1995 filled her up with petrol yesterday evening gauge went up to full as usual got half way down road and noticed it was now sitting just above the red has anyone got any ideas please losing patients with this car nothing but problems since day1

are you sure the petrols still in the car? (so its not a fuel leak? )

Dodgey sender probably, this is part of the fuel pump assembly that is in the tank.
There is a test you can do by just unplugging the wiring to the fuel pump, then testing with a multimeter, need to find a wiring diagram!

I love forums like this, cheers guys and girls. Ran out of petrol tonight, gauge showed I had quater of a tank left :cry:
So searched round on here, found this and other threads, checked the sender, well I looked at it anyway :laugh: Filled her up, put some injector cleaner in and seems fine now.
Plus I read somewhere that those temporary filler caps can cause problems due to lack of pressure, turns out I have one fitted so I'll be ordering a new VW one tomorrow. Didn't notice when I bought the car Sunday :embarassed:
