thats a trixy one for sure mate.
def sounds like you need a new boot lock. my guess you'd need a specialist locksmith and or take it to the dealership to sort out but i'm guessing its going to be a little pricey
you could probably try 'breaking in' yourself but you may end doing more damage
wow.....not much help am i  sorry bud

Have you tried some penetrating fluid to ease the lock as mine is rather stiff so ive had to keep it regularly greased. There is a boot release relay number 18(79/407) so thats top second to right and it also has a fuse f38 (15a) but its unlikely to be that as it opperates the fuel cap, and all central locking. Hope you get it sorted.

Usually, you can 'dead-lock' the boot with the key so that it always stays locked even when you open the doors with the remote.
My first guess would be that your boot lock has seized in the 'dead-lock' position, which would explain why it remains locked when you open the doors).
It's definitely worth trying spraying a little WD40 or similar into the lock (with that straw attachment that comes with it), & also spray a little on the key blade. My boot lock's a little sticky, come to think of it. I have to push it right in, then give it a little wiggle before it will turn.

Can you not release the lock from inside the boot?

Hi, I've just joined the forum too! Just acquired a 1.8T and loving it.
I hope I'm not stating the obvious (and shoot me down if I am lol), but you are aware that if you press the door open button on the drivers door controls it unlocks the boot aswell?
It's the same action you get when you double press the remote.
hope this helps, and if not let me just say hello to you all!
EDIT: re read your post and woops. I realise now you mean physically releasing the catch from within the boot. I had a quick look, are you liekly to be able to get the trim panel off the tail gati without opening the boot? You might be able to ping the mech if you can.

I had the same problem. i sprayed loads of WD40 in the lock.then force the key in.wiggling it from side to side.it soon fixed the problem. being carful not to damage the key.it had corroded inside the lock from water getting inside.
